Lawrence’s career start- ed with the Chicago Tri- bune. He then moved on to the St. Petersburg Times and tried something new at the Barnett Bank as and executive director. But, eventually, he fin- ished up his career when he retired from the San Luis Obispo Tribune in 1993. He was a 50-year mem- ber of the Elks, an active member of the American Legion and DAV, and was a former member of the San Luis Obispo Sheriff Posse. Lawrence was a very artistic, caring man. He never met anyone he didn’t like.
