SIUSLAW NEWS | SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2019 | 9A ‘Goin’ With the Flo’ vintage trailer show returns Florence is about to roll-retro for the second annual “Goin’ with the Flo Vintage Trailer Rally.” More than 50 kitschy- campy travel trailers will be staged for free public view- ing at the Port of Siuslaw Campground in Old Town Florence on Saturday, Oct. 19, from noon to 3 p.m. The event is all about sharing about and preserv- ing the nostalgic road-trip- ping vacation era of the 1950s and 60s. Most of the trailers are restored to perfection, some will be in the resto- ration process, and some will be towed by cool classic vehicles from the trailer’s same era. Visitors can expect Hal- l owe e n - t h e m e d t r ai l e r displays and Solarity Pup- petry, a solar-powered liter- ary vintage caravan featur- ing puppet shows several times throughout the event. Visitors can also chat with owners who are hap- py to share about vintage trailer restoration, about this growing-in-populari- ty travel trend, and what it takes to keep these rare rigs on the road. “Last year was a hit. Hun- dreds of spectators came out to enjoy the event and the trailer owners loved Florence, so they’re excit- ed about coming back,” said event coordinator Ter- ry Abeyta. “Florence Old Town shops are pulling out cool, vintage-inspired items to sell — and Florence is also a prime destination for antique and garage sale en- thusiasts. It’s a great time to come out and play.” Abeyta, and partner Dan Hankins, are owners of two classic Airstreams and a 1960s Streamline. The couple operates Explod- ing Whale Beach Camp in Florence and rents their trailers on Airbnb as an experiential alternative to traditional lodging. For more information, email terabeyta@gmail. com, or visit them on Face- book at “Goin’ with the Flo Vintage Trailer Rally.” Siuslaw News + COURTESY PHOTO The ‘Goin’ With the Flo’ vintage trailer show will take place in the Port of Siuslaw Campground on Oct. 19, from noon to 3 p.m. Local Realtors ‘dig deep’ Each year, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Northwest Real Estate agents participate in a regional day of giving that takes place across Oregon and Washington, with agents work- ing together to make a difference in their communities as they ‘Give a Day Away’ in service to others. FUUF to dicsuss ‘Healing Power of Joy’ Dr. Rev. Marcia Pearce will share a message ti- tled: “The Lasting, Heal- ing Power of Joy,” at the Sunday, Oct. 6, Florence Unitarian Universalist Fel- lowship (FUUF) from 10 to 11 a.m. “An unwanted thought recently attached itself to my consciousness. It af- firmed, ‘I am the cause of my own next event, and my own personal events have not been too impres- sive lately. I needed to find a better way,’” Dr. Pearce said. “Searching for a bet- ter way to think about all of this, I found many: love, forgiveness, joy, positive thinking, meditation and more. As a great metaphy- sician once said, ‘Our only enemy is ourselves and the only thing that holds us back is our mind.’” FUUF, located at 87738 Highway 101 at Heceta Beach Road, is wheelchair accessible.
