In addition, PeaceHealth Peace Harbor taught two classes on emergency suturing. The expo, sponsored by Siuslaw News and Western Lane Emergency Operations Group, brings speakers and vendors together each year to provide the Siuslaw region informa- tion on preparation. The first speaker will be Janell Morgan, who has been the Executive Direc- tor of Florence Habitat for Humanity since January of 2018. She will be speaking specifically on the Habitat Restore, which is a store that sells a variety of gently used home goods includ- ing appliances, furniture, paint, doors, windows, plumbing supplies and many other items. Morgan, who just be- came a Master Recycler, will provide an informative slide presentation. Learn how you can re- model or even build a house using mostly reused materials while saving the environment. She will also explain why some items cannot be accepted. The next speaker will be Eileen Angilletta, who is the Communications Chairperson for Precious Plastics of Florence. Pre- cious Plastics started about a year ago as a group of cit- izens who were very con- cerned when the City of Florence announced that their garbage haulers could no longer accept a wide variety of plastics in their recycling. Angilletta will give an update on what the group has accomplished. She teaches a variety of class- es at LCC in Florence in- cluding a variety of dance classes. Sandy Todd and Mau- r e e n M i l t e n b e r g e r, co-chairpersons of the Siuslaw Climate Alliance, will be giving an update of the progress being made towards our second annu- al Earth Day Celebration, which will be held this year on the Port of Siuslaw Boardwalk on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The theme this year is “Protecting Our Species.” The City Club presen- tation will be held Thurs- day, April 4, beginning at noon at the Ocean Dunes Golf Links, located at 3345 Munsel Lake Rd. Community Coalition ‘jazzed about volunteers’ on April 10 When the Florence Area Community Coalition (FACC) held its 10th annu- al Volunteer Recognition event and celebrated the coalition’s 30th birthday last April, nearly 175 fellow volunteers joined the fes- tivities to honor all those who give so generously of their time and make Flor- ence a wonderful place to live. This year, FACC will be “Jazzed About Our Volun- teers” on Wednesday, April 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. WEDNESDAY THURSDAY The Volunteer Recogni- tion, sponsored by FACC and the City of Florence, will feature a jazz guitar- ist and delicious refresh- ments. It will be a good resource for networking opportunities. The keynote address will be by Russ Pierson, dean of Lane Community College Florence Center and pres- ident of the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce. FACC will award a schol- arship to an outstanding high school student and present its annual volun- teer recognition slide show.
