2A | WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2019 | SIUSLAW NEWS On The Record OBITUARIES GROSHONG—Michael C. Groshong, passed away Jan. 19, 2019, at Riverbend Hospital in Springfield. He was born to Carroll and Edith Groshong on March 10, 1943 in Eugene, Ore. Mike is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jo; daughter Stephanie (Tom) daughter Jennie (Kim) brother Phil (Margie) and numerous ex- tended family. H e worked in radio sales for 50 years. Radio Stations Michael KEED, Groshong KUGN, KSND, KDUK, KZEL and most recently KCST in Florence. Since his retirement in 2003, he was president of Florence Siuslaw Lions Club, a member of Rhody Crusiers car club and produced the Florence Wings & Wheels event. A private family graveside service was held on Jan. 26, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 10, at 1 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Florence. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. BURG—Anthony (Tony) Burg was called home to his Lord and Savior on Feb. 17, 2019. He was born in Milwau- kee, Wisc., Dec. 30, 1945. He was always proud of his Midwestern roots. Tony was always known for his Faith, love of family, loyalty and mentoring spirit. At age 18, Tony joined the Air Force. He served honorably in Air Rescue in Viet Nam for several years. Tony and his young family of four, plus his four siblings, their spouses and his moth- er, Mary Nellis, all moved West to Klamath Falls, Ore., in 1970. Tony earned his degree in mechanical engineering at Oregon Institute of Technol- ogy in 1974 while support- ing his family, working at Weyerhaeuser and playing music on the weekends. He moved to Coos Bay and there found his true career working at Bay Area Hospital in the Engineer- ing Department. There, he also met the love of his life a R.N., Judi who became his wife in 1986. They have en- joyed 33 years of marriage and romance. He worked at Group Health Hospital System in Seattle, Wash., as a Director of Engineering and Facili- ties from 1989 until 1998. He was awarded a Master of Business Administration at the University of Washing- ton in 1999. Sutter Health in Sacra- mento California called, and he begin his final chapters of work in 1998. He held a va- riety of positions as director over various departments and hospitals in that system. His most rewarding achievement was Project Executive for the building and remodeling of the Sut- ter Medical Center in Sacra- mento. One of his most memo- rable work experiences was with his “Core Team” on that project. He retired in 2015. Tony and Judi returned to the Oregon Coast in Flor- ence. Tony came to know the Lord as his Savior in his 30s. He lived out his faith by tell- ing others of the love God has for us all and the for- giveness of sins by believing Jesus died and rose to heav- en paying for the sins we all have. He had a servant’s heart as he was building something at whatever church he at- tended, encouraging others in their faith, being an Elder, or just listening and sharing Scripture. He was the loving leader of our family and he was lovingly cared for by his family at home at the time of his death. He is survived and adored by his wife, Judi in Florence; daughters Cari (David) VanVleck of Boise, Idaho, Kelly Burg (Jeff Kunkle), Scappoose, Ore., Katherine Zanni (Eric) of Coquille, Ore., Mary Armstrong (Ja- son) of Klamath Falls, Ore., Theresa VanAuken of Port- land, Ore.; step-children Jeff Sober (Mary) of Ban- don, Ore. and Cindie Corley (Brian) of Eugene, Ore. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life, well lived, will be March 30, at 2 p.m., at Church On The Rock, 1750 18th St. in Flor- ence. OLSON—Donald Olson, born Sept. 17, 1935, was a local realtor in Florence. He passed away in Sol- vang, Calif., while visiting for the winter. A memorial will be cele- brated at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Florence. MARLER —Timothy K. Marler, 64, of Florence, passed away Feb. 24, 2019.
