2A | WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2019 | SIUSLAW NEWS On The Record OBITUARIES CAPLES—Anne Lloyd Caples, 79, of Florence, passed away peacefully Jan. 22, 2019. She was born Dec. 16, 1939 in Norfolk, Va., to Martin Hutchinson Caples and Alice Leigh Caples. The family later moved to Princeton Junction, NJ., where Anne graduat- ed from Princeton High School in 1958. In 1961, she re- ceived a diploma in nurs- ing from Orange Anne Caples M e - morial Hospital School of Nursing. In 1964, she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The Univer- sity of Virginia. In 1980, she received a Master of Arts from Eastern Mich- igan University; in 1985, she received a Post Masters Certificate for Nursing Ad- ministration from Villano- va University. In her career, Anne held many positions in the med- ical field: staff nurse, head nurse, Director of Staff Development, Director of Nursing, Assistant Profes- sor of Nursing, Director of Nursing Education, Direc- tor of Healthcare Education, Director of Teleconference Networks for Health Ser- vices and President of Inter- national Healthcare Inc. Anne’s true passion in life was birding, she traveled the world in search of any and all of her feathered friends. She was always looking to add to her life-list, which was quite extensive and im- pressive. She had an adventur- ous and can-do spirit that served her well in her ca- reer, travels and life in gen- eral. Anne touched many lives. She embraced and accepted everyone without hesita- tion. She loved sharing sto- ries of her life experiences with anyone willing to lis- ten. Her friends weren’t just friends they were her family and there were many. She had the kindest soul and easily gave the best hugs; she will be missed by many. Anne supported and volunteered for numerous organizations throughout her life with some of the more recent being Cascades Raptor Center, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Florence Garden Club, Habitat for Humanity, Institute for Ap- plied Ecology, International Crane Foundation, Mal- heur Field Station, National and Local Audubon Soci- eties, Nature Conservancy, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Oregon Public Broadcast- ing, Oregon Shores Conser- vation Coalition, Shoreline Education for Awareness, Soroptimist International of Florence and Umpqua Dis- covery Center. She is survived by her brother, Martin Leigh Ca- ples (Josephine); multiple cousins including Sarah Leigh Kinberg, Sue Minkel and James Leigh Frazier; Nieces Tuyet Demick (Rob) and Annie Nyquist (Todd) and multiple grandnieces and grandnephews. A celebration of life will be held at the Presbyteri- an Church of the Siuslaw on Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m., 3996 Highway 101 in Florence. LARGE—Gregory Beck- with Large, 92, of Walla Walla, Wash., passed away on Dec. 28, 2018, due to age-related causes. Greg was born April 25, 1926, in Seattle, Wash., to Webster and Alice (Vander- burg) Large. After Webster was killed in a railroad acci- dent when Greg was 8, Alice moved t h e family to Flor- e n c e on the North F o r k family home- Gregory Large stead. After attending Siuslaw schools, Greg joined the Army in 1945 and served as a mili- tary policeman in Japan. Upon returning from the Army, Greg bought a portion of the Vanderburg North Fork homestead. On June 2, 1948, he married Jessie Wilma Miller. Together they operated a dairy farm while Greg also worked in local mills and drove a school bus. During this time, Greg attended night school in Coos Bay where he received electrical apprentice training. In 1968, they moved from the Florence area where Greg pursued his electrical interests and, in 1970, be- came the head electrician of a nursing home and retire- ment center construction firm. In 1974, he formed Greg’s Electric in Renton, Wash., specializing in nursing home and retirement center construction which includ- ed nurse call, fire alarm and emergency power systems. Greg and Jessie divorced in 1979. In 1980, Greg and Ramo- na Starr were married and after retirement moved to Walla Walla, Wash. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home, went on var- ious construction mission trips, and built a new house overlooking the Walla Wal- la valley. Greg’s second passion after his electrical pursuits was woodworking. He of- ten surprised his family with beautifully hand craft- ed end tables, mirrors and even wooden puzzles. Greg had an ingenious mechanical aptitude and enjoyed tinkering with any- thing having moving parts. Greg joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1958 and lived by its beliefs and principles throughout his life. Greg is survived by his wife Ramona; son Donald Large of Florence, Ore.; daughter Linda (Large) Vandehey of Banks, Ore.; son Gary Large of Rent- on, Wash.; seven grand children, seven great- grand children, one great-great-granddaughter, three step-daughters and seven step-grandchildren. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Web- ster; his mother Alice; his first wife, Jessie; and brother Forest Eugene (Gene); and a step-son. STEWART—Geoffrey T. Stewart, 55, passed away Feb. 10, 2019. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 4 p.m. at the First United Meth- odist Church, 1 1 1 5 2 8 t h Ave., in Albany, Ore. Geoff passed Geoffrey a w a y Stewart unex- pectedly at his home. His passing has left a gi- ant hole in the hearts of his family and friends. A life ended that was so full of love, fun, joy and unre- served giving. Geoff was born Oct. 23, 1963, in Florence to Don and Pat Stewart, the first of three sons. He graduated from Oregon State Univer- sity in 1989 with a degree in literature. Geoff served in the U.S. Army, stationed in El Paso, Texas, from 1986 to 1988. Geoff was married to Me- linda Martin on Sept. 15, 1985. They had three children: Jacob, Sidney and Hallam. Geoff is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Berg, of Eugene; his three children: Jacob Stewart of Portland, Sidney Stewart of Las Vegas, Nev., and Hallam Stewart of Portland, Ore.; his parents, Don and Pat Stewart of Florence; and his two broth- ers: Stephen Stewart of Da- mascus, Ore., and Rodney Stewart of Springfield, Ore. Geoff was extremely gen- erous giving his time, mon- ey and talents to his family and friends; his people were his priority. In lieu of flowers, remem- brances may be forwarded to “Spread the Word Neva- da” which distributes books to needy children in Geoff ’s memory.
