SIUSLAW NEWS | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 2019 | 3A Community News Local agencies team up to help Coast Guard New Life Lutheran Church and Florence Food Share, a local food distri- bution agency, teamed up to raise funds for the local Coast Guard personnel, working without pay during the recent government shut- down. In one week of fund- raising, the church raised $1,650. The donations went to the Chief Petty Officers Association to be dispersed to Station Siuslaw. As the shutdown has ended for the moment, the church has ended fundrais- ing. New Life Lutheran is a small congregation made up of mostly older members, many of which are military veterans. “The people at Siuslaw River Station are our peo- ple, and we want them to know we stand with them in the same way they stand with us,” said New Life Lu- theran Pastor John Maas. “We provided the financial assistance, and Food Share helped make the connection with the Guard Station.” New Life Lutheran Church is at 2100 Spruce St. in Florence. We are honored that at this time we can support them.” Three Rivers was initially opened as a casino-only facil- ity in 2004 and was expanded into a full-service resort in- cluding the adjoining hotel in 2007.
