The season was originally set to start Oct. 1, but was de- layed once until Oct. 13, and is now delayed again until Oct. 27, due to continued dry weather and fire danger. The Lane County Fire Defense Board and Oregon Department of Forestry decided to postpone the opening of the season in Lane County since weath- er conditions have been too dry. The limited precipita- tion and dew the coun- ty has seen are not been enough to reduce fire risks and allow residential out- door burning. If the same weather patterns continue, the season could be de- layed further. Outdoor burning, also known as open or back- yard burning, allows some Lane County residents to burn dry woody yard de- bris that was generated on their own residential property. Rules concern- ing outdoor burning dif- fer throughout the county, with some cities banning burning within city limits all together. Before starting a fire, all residents must check the daily burning adviso- ry, which indicates to the community if burning is prohibited on a given day. The advisory also tells res- idents when all fires must be extinguished by. The daily burning advi- sory can be found by call- ing Lane Regional Air Pro- tection Agency’s advisory line at 541-726-3976 or by visiting www.lrapa.org. To prevent any uncon- trolled fires, the Fire De- fense Board reminds all residents that all outdoor burning must be constantly attended until extinguished with water nearby. Due to the heavy wildfire smoke intrusions this sum- mer, LRAPA encourages served on the Heceta Water Board and Siuslaw Fire Dis- trict. Dwight is survived by a son, Tony; his daughter, Traci; four grandchildren: Memphis, Balin, Kyndall and Fallon Rayne; a sister, Darlene; and nephew, Gary. Dwight held a spot in many hearts and will be greatly missed. Family held private ser- vices. Independent and Here to Stay! POLICE LOG Oct. 6 years in the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge, he returned to his hometown where he made his living as a nurseryman. He was an avid hunter, always having a story to tell and loved the outdoors. A favorite past time would be sitting around the fire with family and friends talking about anything at all. He loved his local com- munity and could always be found at a Vikings game. Over the years, he had residents to explore alterna- tives to burning. Residents can dispose of woody yard debris for a minimal charge at one of Lane County’s var- ious collection depots or with Rexius and Lane For- est Products. Chipping and composting are also alterna- tive options to burning. For more information, contact Jo Niehaus at 541- 736-1056 ext. 217 and Highway 101.
