Get ready for the Florence Wiener Dog Races, now in a whole new event! The Siuslaw News, Florence Events Center and the Florence Wiener Dog Races are partner- ing together to bring this fun new event to Florence: Okto- Fur-Fest! On Saturday, Oct. 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., join the community for great food and family fun. En- joy traditional music as games will be held throughout the day at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. Bratwurst, beer and wine will be served by the Friends of the Florence Events Cen- ter and Florence Re- gional Arts Alliance. Florence Wiener Dog Races The Wiener Dog Races, an- nually sponsored by the Siu- slaw News, will be a highlight of Okto-Fur-Fest. Every year, these fierce competitors go head-to-head — or perhaps head-to-tail — starting at 1 p.m. Entry to Okto-Fur-Fest is $2. Limited perimeter seating, for the best view of the races, is available for an additional $5. Tickets are available at the Florence Events Center or at the door the day of the event. To all of our dedicated front-line staff: SEAcoast Entertainment Association is proud to open its 2018-19 season with the Doo-Wah Riders. Get ready to kick up those cowboy boots and have a rip-roaring time on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. There will be a pre-show talk at 6:15 p.m. There is no one else like the Doo-Wah Riders. For over 30 years they have been blazing their own trail on the musical range throughout the west. The group possesses the rare combination of many years of experience and youthful ener- gy, fired by a love of what they do. The Doo-Wahs are country, with a unique original sound they define as “high-energy country with a Cajun twist.” Their tight musicianship and powerful arrange- ments of classic, contemporary and original songs have made them favorites everywhere they go. The Doo-Wahs consist of Kenny Lee Benson on keyboards, accordion, harmonica and vocals; Lindy Rasmussen on guitar and vocals; Aaron Castilla on fiddle and vocals; Freddie Johnson on bass and vo- cals; and Peter Kaye on drums. The group has appeared in concert with Garth Brooks, George Strait, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Alabama, Alan Jackson, Charlie Daniels, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Brooks and Dunn, Keith Urban, Wil- lie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton and the list goes on. In addition to being artists in their own right, the Doo-Wahs have served as a back-up band to Chuck Berry, Charlie Daniels, George Jones, Glen Camp- bell, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lee Ann Womack, Martina McBride and many more country legends.
