While Neece’s performance certainly was a large part of the Sailors’ dominant win over the Warriors, it wasn’t the only factor. Th e Warriors essentially trailed by two touchdowns throughout the third period. But one of the biggest stops for the Sailors came early in the fourth quarter, when the Mapleton defense was able to force Oakridge turn the ball over on downs within 15 yards of the end zone. On the fi rst play of the Sail- ors’ possession, senior Evan Moso brought the ball 68 yards and to within 18 yards of the end zone. On the next play, Neece was able to score thanks to out- standing blocking from junior Nate Neece — a presence who cleared the way for JJ Neece throughout the night. Maleton's last score came with 4:05 on the clock, follow- ing a 47-yard carry by Moso that put the Sailors within 30 yards of the goal line. JJ Neece scored on the next carry, adding the conversion for a 70-46 lead. Th e Warriors connected on a 63-yard pass on their next possession to make it 54-70, then snagged an onside kick within 47 yards of the end zone. But Mapleton’s defense was able to hold the Warriors scoreless for the fi nal 2:08 on the clock for a 70-54 victory. Friday, Mapleton will be on the road at Yoncalla. Against Pacifi c, Michael had 7 aces and 8 kills; McMas- ter-Wills added 3 aces and 1 kill. Last night, Mapleton hosted Eddyville (aft er press dead- lines) and will be on the road at Alsea tomorrow.
