SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, May 16, 2018 Siuslaw 3 B from 1B 20 events come the state 4A meet this weekend at Hayward Field — a fitting swan song for Siuslaw's many years in the Far West. Particularly since it had the chance to host the final meet, which was memorialized in T-shirts specially made to mark the occasion that read “Final Far West Meet” and list- ed each of the schools in the league. Though it was the end of an era in one way, it was the beginning of another as S i u s l a w ’s u n d e r c l a s s m e n stepped up to deliver six indi- vidual district titles — three each from the freshmen and sophomores. For the freshmen, hurdler Gracie Freudenthal swept both the 300- and 100-meter hur- dles, clocking 15.96 in the short race, and running a personal record in the long race with a time of 47.42 — a time that earned her the fourth-fastest time in Siuslaw history. A day earlier, Freudenthal PRd during the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.63 to overtake Siuslaw’s No. 2 spot on the all- time list. Meanwhile, fellow freshman Andrea Osbon claimed the dis- trict title in the shot put on Friday with a PR of 37 feet, 4.25 inches. Then on Saturday, she took the discus title as well after throwing a PR at 104-11.
