meet this weekend at Hayward
Field — a fitting swan song for
Siuslaw's many years in the Far
West. Particularly since it had
the chance to host the final
meet, which was memorialized
in T-shirts specially made to
mark the occasion that read
“Final Far West Meet” and list-
ed each of the schools in the
league.
Though it was the end of an
era in one way, it was the
beginning of another as

stepped up to deliver six indi-
vidual district titles — three
each from the freshmen and
sophomores.
For the freshmen, hurdler
Gracie Freudenthal swept both
the 300- and 100-meter hur-
dles, clocking 15.96 in the short
race, and running a personal
record in the long race with a
time of 47.42 — a time that
earned her the fourth-fastest
time in Siuslaw history. A day
earlier, Freudenthal PRd during
the 100-meter hurdles with a
time of 15.63 to overtake
Siuslaw’s No. 2 spot on the all-
time list.
Meanwhile, fellow freshman
Andrea Osbon claimed the dis-
trict title in the shot put on
Friday with a PR of 37 feet,
4.25 inches. Then on Saturday,
she took the discus title as well
after throwing a PR at 104-11. Siuslaw senior Josh Payne will

meters (2:22.17) and 3,000
meters (10:45.80), qualifying
for state in both events, along
with
fellow
sophomore
Brendon Jensen, who claimed
the 1,500-meter (4:25.24) and
3,000-meter (9:44.60) titles.
Another sophomore, Ryan
Rendon-Padilla, managed an
upset in the boys javelin over
defending state champion Ty
Hampton of North Bend after
launching a PR throw of 172-
01 to claim the title. Hampton
scratched and failed to record a
mark.
The final district title for
Siuslaw came on the legs of
Naomi
Shoji,
Rannow,
Blankenship and Freudenthal
in the 4x400-meter relay in
4:14.03.
In addition to its individual
league title winners, Siuslaw
had several other state-qualify-
ing marks at districts, includ-
ing:

ing in the Para 400 meters
(1:25.13) and 1,500 meters
(5:34.01)

who was second in the 300-
meter hurdles with a PR of
44.46
• Senior Trent Reavis, with a
second-place mark in the shot
put at 51-2

discus with a second-place
throw of 134-04
