T Friday, April 27, 2018 2 p.m. — Bossa PDX Bossa PDX is a Portland-based band that plays lovingly transcribed arrangements of Gilberto Gil, Rober- to Menescal, Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Joao Donato, and Tom Jo- bim compositions, among others. Kerry Politzer – piano New England Conservatory graduate Kerry Politzer is a pianist with Brazil- ian and classical infl uences. She has six albums as a leader, including “Below the Surface,” which was released by PJCE Records in 2014. Kerry fi rst discovered Brazilian music in college, where she was inspired by a residency performed by multi-instrumentalist composer Her- meto Pascoal. She is a featured instru- mentalist on saxophonist Laura Drey- er’s Brazilian-infl uenced release, “Free Flying Bird” (Sony Latin, 2011). www. kerrypolitzer.com Melissa Carroll – fl ute Melissa Car- roll is a native Oregonian born and raised in Sa- lem. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Pacifi c Univer- sity and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from Port- land State University. Aft er graduat- ing from Pacifi c, she moved to Cheng- du, China, and Singapore, where she lived for nine years, performing and teaching. She currently lives in Port- land, where she teaches music at Park Academy as well as at her own studio. www.melissacarrollmusic.com Dylan Sundstrom – bass Washington-born Dylan is well- versed in both jazz fusion and tradition- al jazz. He counts Ray Brown and Oscar Peterson as some of his infl uences. Be- fore moving to Portland, he relocated to Boise to study with Kurt Elling’s bassist, Clark Sommers. Dylan can regularly be seen in drummer’s Chris Brown Quar- tet and with trumpeter Farnell Newton. He appears on the Th omas Hutchings/ Camden Hughes album “Introspective: (2015) and on Farnell Newton’s “Back to Earth” (Positone, 2016).
