2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2018 OBITUARY TOWNE—Della Mae Towne (Kessler), 80, of Florence, p a s s e d a w a y peacefully Jan. 19, 2018, after a long ill- ness. D e l l a was born July 27, Della Towne 1937, in Chicago, Ill. At a young age, she and her family moved to Sacramento, Calif. Della was the second oldest of eight chil- dren born to Frank P. Kessler and Laura I. Kessler (Eakins). GRADUATE NOTES and other office positions in the insurance industry. She worked in, and retired from, UCD Med Center Orthopedics office. Della was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Donald and David Kessler; three sisters: Dorothy Haley, Dixie Doral and Diane Vanderwater. She is survived by her two daughters: Laura E. Hollis (Jim) and Tina M. Meyers (Steve); two sisters: Dona Winton (Jack) and Doris Mefford; her grandchildren: Carolyn Heseman (Larry), Christopher Boone, Laura Danielle Boone, April Boone, She graduated from Grant Union High School in Sacramento, Calif., and mar- ried Richard H. Towne. They had two daughters; Richard and Della divorced in the early 1970s. A few years later, Della mar- ried Richard Garlinghouse. This marriage ended in divorce in the mid 1980s. During her life, Della loved to entertain in her home. She was a member of the Sacramento Jazz Society. She loved spending time with her family. Della worked with her hus- band (Garlinghouse) in their business machine repair office Kelsey Meyers and Conner Meyers (Holly); five great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Private family services will be held at a future date. Della was very generous with her time and love. She will be missed. The family also wishes to share its appreciation to Elderberry Square and Regency of Florence for the loving care they provided. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burkhart is among 459 undergraduate students at Pacific University to achieve this high academic honor. To qualify for the dean’s list at Pacific, a student must achieve a term grade-point average 3.70 (4.00 scale) and complete 12 or more graded hours. Burkhart is a graduate of Siuslaw High school. Stickley, who shot Drake in the back of the head last Feb. 12 as he sat on a couch in his Wild Winds Street home, said “I just snapped” when she pulled the trigger and fatally shot her ex-husband. Initially, Stickley had claimed self-defense, telling authorities that she had shot Drake during a struggle that ensued after he pulled a hand- gun and threatened to shoot her.
