SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2017 Donations from 1A “We’d like to give a great big thank you to Three Rivers Casino for providing another way their participants can help out Florence Food Share,” Barton said. The food share also received cash donations from individu- als and corporations from around the region. On Thursday, Nov. 9, Sam Spayd, Volunteer Kettle Coordinator for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, announced the Army of Western Lane County will be giving $2,000 to the food share. “This is a wonderfully gen- erous gift and comes at a time when Florence Food Share is truly in need,” Barton said. “Thank you, Salvation Army.” Because of the multiple donations that have come through, Barton stated Food Share was able to repay the $20,000 line of credit it had taken out earlier in the month. That line of credit was needed to help support the program’s operational costs throughout the holiday. While the cash donations have put Florence Food Share in the black for now, funds are still needed throughout the year, particularly after the holi- days. “The need for continued operational funds remains strong,” Barton said. Donations can be accepted online at www.florencefood share.org; checks can be sent to: P.O. Box 2514, Florence, Oregon, 97439; and donors can hand deliver their food or cash donations directly to the pantry at 2190 Spruce St. between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. 9 A The Studios debuts ‘Handmade Holiday’ The Studios at Jayne Smoley Designs is hosting the first Handmade Holiday Gift Gallery on Saturday, Nov. 11, to feature the talents of local and regional artists and makers. This one-day Gift Gallery is an opportunity for regional artists to showcase and sell their work, and for the community to purchase unique, high quality handmade gifts. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Florence Food Share’s holiday baskets. The Studios is at 1458 First St. in Historic Old Town Florence, and the event is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Artists include “ExplORE” photographer Jo Beaudreau, reclaimed wood sign artist Jamie Dompierre, pastel artist and master crafter Kassy Keppol, mixed-media artist and jeweler Gigi Lassan, Meant Manufacturing founder and tex- tile creator Lindsey Phillips, whimsical oil painter Tamarah Phillips, fused glass artist and gallery owner Jayne Smoley, Pacific Northwest art jeweler Melody Stancato, jewelry artist Denise Tarvin and Siuslaw High School students Jessalynn Keppol, who creates sculptures and jewelry from upcycled cop- per wire, and Brayson Myrick, who makes wooden signs. Several of these artists sell their work through online stores, but rarely showcase their work in their own hometown area of Florence. There will be live music throughout the day. For more information, go to jaynesmoleydesign.com. Levy Holiday Bazaar from 1A Grzeskowiak continued, “The availability of pro- grams for students, includ- ing some expansion of electives, and smaller class sizes than many other schools in the county, are proof that the community’s money has been well spent by the board of directors. The district will continue this wise stewardship of resources, from both local and state sources, to see that Siuslaw students are prepared for their future.” The Lane County clerk has until Nov. 27 to certify the election results.
