Th is year the stage will sparkle with “Totally Twisted Tinsel.” Each year, happy local folks head to the Florence Events Center the fi rst week of December for the commu- nity event, “Th e Holly Jolly Follies.” Th is year’s Follies, subtitled “Totally Twisted Tinsel: Th e True Meaning of Christmas,” will be produced December 1st, 2nd, and 3rd by local non-profi t, Children’s Repertory of Oregon Workshops (C.R.O.W.). C.R.O.W. Artistic Director, Mela- nie Heard is honored to once again be at the helm. Rose Ellen Jacobson has penned a quirky plot, involving many creative and clever characters, guaranteed to get you into the holi- day spirit. Th is year, the theme revolves around friendship, patience, under- standing, and the true meaning of the holiday season. But of course, these important concepts are not always easily attained. Th e leading characters of “Amarillo Snowden,” an aging Ballroom dance champion, and “Dolly Dinkle,” an opinionated, bossy dance studio owner, get their tinsel in a twist, and must learn a comedic lesson in how to “get along.” Th is hilarious plot is accompanied by beautiful vocals, funny little skits and scenes, ensemble numbers, and the debut of C.R.O.W.’s new “Flight Dance Team,” which will present two stunning pieces of choreography. Producing the Follies is no easy feat, since it involves such a diverse crowd of talents. Local groups and individuals bring a myriad of ideas and off erings to C.R.O.W. each year, and it can be a bit challenging to piece the puzzle together. But C.R.O.W. is hon- ored to produce their second year of the Follies, which has become a Florence tradition throughout the years. “Th ere are many challenges in day-to-day life for the average person,” says Heard. “It’s my hope that the Follies can make you forget your troubles and come along for a light-hearted, warm and fuzzy sleigh ride with us. We promise we’ll make you smile.” Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and younger. “Th e 2017 Holly Jolly Follies,” are available Amarillo Snowden gives Santa Claus a detailed description of his Christmas list. on the Florence Events Center website at www.eventcenter.,org, or by calling the box offi ce at 541-997- 1994. Th e function of the plan is to make recommendations for stormwater capital improvement projects to ad- dress fl ooding problems and protect the quantity and quality of water in the aquifer, Munsel Creek, Siuslaw River, as well as other valuable natural resources. Th e 2000 Stormwater Management Plan has been used to guide and direct the planning and development eff orts, including upgrades and expansion of the stormwater convey- ance system for a period of 20 years. As the end of that planning period approaches, and most of the projects contained in the current Stormwater Management Plan have been com- pleted, now is the time for the City to reevaluate stormwater management needs of the community. Th is reeval- uation will identify and prioritize the defi ciencies that exist now, so that City stormwater funds are utilized in the best possible way. In February 2017, the City retained Civil West Engineering Services, Inc. to complete an update to the current Stormwater Master Plan. A critical aspect to the success of that eff ort is to engage the community in conver- sation, and collect as much informa- tion as possible regarding existing drainage problems and fl ooding issues around the City. Th e City, to- gether with its consultants from Civil West, will be holding a public recep- tion at the Florence Events Center on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. We invite you to stop by and share your knowledge and concerns with us.
