SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2017 11 A Discover creative inspiration at annual demARTS hosted by Siuslaw Library On Saturday, Oct. 14, the Siuslaw Public Library will host its fourth annual demARTS event. This popular event is a day-long demonstra- tion of creativity and art with something for anyone who enjoys art, creates art or yearns to create art. The demARTS event is the library’s celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month. More than 20 artists will gather at the library and present techniques in multiple art forms including painting, fiber arts, beading, fabric arts and ceramics. Demonstrations will take place in the library’s lobby, Bromley Room and in the con- ference room from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. “I’m excited this celebration of arts and crafts is in its fourth year and has proven to be a popular October community event,” said Mary Colgan- Bennetts, Library Circulation Supervisor, staff liaison to the library’s art committee and cre- ator of demARTS. “The suc- cess of the past demARTS is a reflection of our community’s appreciation of all art forms.” Colgan-Bennetts said that this year, as in previous years, the event will have some differ- ent mediums (art forms) for people to learn about and potentially explore. “New techniques scheduled for this year’s event include decoupage and photo buttons,” Colgan-Bennetts said. The first round of art demon- strations begins at 10 a.m. with alternating groups of artists demonstrating their talents for two hours each throughout the day at 10 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. These presentations will allow participants to observe more than 20 artists and crafters working in a variety of mediums. In addition, the Last Resort Players will provide per- forming arts fans with a pre- view of its upcoming produc- tion of “Annie,” the musical. “Anyone who has longed to turn a blank canvas into a mas- terpiece or anyone interested in CONT I NUES spinning, felting and all things fiber. REUSE is to use an item again. Refi ll a water bottle, reuse a container and buy reusable bags. RECYCLE is to make new items from old ones; recycle bottles, glass, paper, cans, plastic, cardboard & more. T ip SEPARATE TRASH One of the main reasons people feel like they can’t recycle is because it’s an extra step in their already busy day. Keeping a cardboard box or large container right next to the trash can for all recyclable goods makes recycling a whole lot easier.
