2 B SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, JULY 5, 2017 Coastal Gem Walkers host July jaunt today The Coastal Gems Volkswalkers invite the public to come walk with the group today, July 5, at the Gerdemann Gardens YRE in Yachats. The group will meet at the Overleaf Lodge in Yachats at 2 p.m. to register. This 10K walk includes some hills and forest trails, and is not appropriate for wheelchairs or strollers. Walking sticks are suggest- ed. As always, leashed pets are welcome on walks, but bring water and clean up materials for pets. A sturdy 6-foot leash — not the retractable type — is required. Note that dogs are not allowed in the gardens, but an alternate route is available. Following the walk there will be a potluck picnic at the Yachats picnic shelter behind the Commons at 5 p.m. Bring a salad, main dish, side dish or dessert to share with the group. The monthly meeting will follow the picnic at 6 p.m. For more information or directions, call Gene and Linda Williamson in Seal Rock at 541-563-6721, or Maryann Brown in Waldport at 541-961-4279. The club website is www. yachatscoastalgems.org. Oregon Trails Advisory Council seeks new members The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is taking applications for new members to serve on the Oregon Recreation Trails Advisory Council (ORTAC) for Congressional District 5. The district covers all of Clackamas, Lincoln, Marion, Polk and Tillamook Counties. The council advises OPRD and its allies in the develop- ment and promotion of high quality, non-motorized trail systems throughout Oregon. Through public meetings and various trail programs, ORTAC assists in creating, improving and promoting a system of safe, sustainable trails for the well-being and enjoyment of Oregon’s resi- dents and visitors alike. ORTAC consists of seven members, including at least one from each congressional district, and at least two mem- bers from separate counties bordering the coast. Members of the Council are appointed by the OPRD Commission, serve at the pleasure of the Commission for four-year terms, and are eligible for reappointment.
