Participants in the Rhododendron Festival’s Grand Floral Parade included current actors from June’s “Master Class,” past perform- ers of “Pirates of Penzance” and “Moon Over Buffalo” and the debut of Elyse Stewart as the star of “Annie.” Jennifer Connor will direct “Annie” at the Florence Events Center on November 3 to 5 and 10 to 12. “Annie” is a Broadway musical based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip “Little Orphan Annie,” with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan. The musi- cal’s songs “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life” are among its most popular musi- cal numbers. Set in the 1930s, Annie is a spunky orphan girl who must live in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. A large cast of 35 to 40 actors, dancers and singers make up the cast of this family friendly musical. “We are so pleased with the turn out for ‘Annie’ auditions,” Connor said. “What a great job they all did! LCC to host workshop for potential instructors Lane Community College Florence Center's Continuing Education program will hold an informational workshop for community members interest- ed in teaching non-credit courses. The library is located at 1460 Ninth St. This class is designed to help attendees discuss with family challenging and often uncomfortable topics that sur- round Alzheimer’s and demen- tia. The event is hosted by the Friends of the FEC and the FFOB planning committee. Now in its seventh year, the book festival continues to be a popular gathering for res: fiction, nonfiction, mem- oir, children’s literature, fan- tasy, mystery, young adult, poetry and more. Nearly 20 of the authors in attendance will be local resi- dents. On Friday, Sept. 29, John Daniel, winner of the 2006 Pacific Northwest Book-s eller’s Association Book Award, will be the guest speaker. There will also be a meet- and-greet and special author’s panel that evening.
