Ron Wyden will be speaking at a town hall meeting at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St., on May 28 at 11 a.m. According to Press Secretary and Spokesperson Hank Stern, Wyden will be making a short introductory statement and then opening the discussion up to the public. Community members that would like to to ask the Senator a particular question will be asked to draw a number upon arrival and those num- bers that have been distributed to attendees will be selected at random, to allow constituents to ask their question. Wyden has a long standing policy of conducting at least one town hall meeting in every county in the state, every year. To this point in his tenure, Wyden has conducted more that 800 Town Hall meetings across the state. PeaceHealth establishes decontamination team PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center recently trained members of a newly developed decontamination team. The new decontamination team may be deployed during situations at the medical center hospital and other facilities that may require the deconta- mination of patients in an emergency situation, such as cleansing to remove contami- nation by hazardous materials including chemicals, radioac- tive substances and infectious materials. See Jim for your auto sales needs! 2150 Hwy. 101 • Florence (541) 997-3475 • 1-800-348-3475 WLAD provides safety education, bike helmets According to Danielle Hanson, Western Lane Ambulance District (WLAD) paramedic and the Public Education Coordinator for the group, the manager of the Siuslaw Dunes Apartments in Florence recently contacted WLAD with concerns that some of the children living in the complex did not have bicy- cle helmets. In response, Hanson con- ducted a safety event on May 18 at the apartment complex to help the children living there stay safe while riding their bikes. Approximately 20 years ago, WLAD created the first active SAFEKIDS Chapter in Oregon with the goal of reducing unin- tentional injuries and deaths in children under 15 years of age. Bike Helmet Safety was included in the program and has continued, providing edu- cation and free helmets for children who need them. According the Oregon SAFEKIDS program, 52 per- cent of children under the age of 14 don’t always wear a hel- met when riding a bike. The clubhouse is located at the corner of 286 West Third and Pontiac streets in Yachats.
