Wyden to hold Town
Hall meeting Sunday
U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden will
be speaking at a town hall
meeting at the Florence Events
Center, 715 Quince St., on
May 28 at 11 a.m.
According
to
Press
Secretary and Spokesperson
Hank Stern, Wyden will be
making a short introductory
statement and then opening the
discussion up to the public.
Community members that
would like to to ask the
Senator a particular question
will be asked to draw a number
upon arrival and those num-
bers that have been distributed
to attendees will be selected at
random, to allow constituents
to ask their question.
Wyden has a long standing
policy of conducting at least
one town hall meeting in every
county in the state, every year.
To this point in his tenure,
Wyden has conducted more
that 800 Town Hall meetings
across the state.
PeaceHealth establishes
decontamination team
PeaceHealth Peace Harbor
Medical Center recently
trained members of a newly
developed decontamination
team.
The new decontamination
team may be deployed during
situations at the medical center
hospital and other facilities
that may require the deconta-
mination of patients in an
emergency situation, such as
cleansing to remove contami-
nation by hazardous materials
including chemicals, radioac-
tive substances and infectious
materials.
The caregivers’ new train-
ing was completed in compli-
ance with the Federal Emer-
gency Management Agency as
a next step following the
recent installation of a decont-
amination shower system in
the medical center’s emer-
gency department.

WLAD provides safety education, bike helmets
According to Danielle
Hanson,
Western
Lane
Ambulance District (WLAD)
paramedic and the Public
Education Coordinator for the
group, the manager of the
Siuslaw Dunes Apartments in
Florence recently contacted
WLAD with concerns that
some of the children living in
the complex did not have bicy-
cle helmets.
In response, Hanson con-
ducted a safety event on May
18 at the apartment complex to
help the children living there
stay safe while riding their
bikes.
Approximately 20 years ago,
WLAD created the first active
SAFEKIDS Chapter in Oregon
with the goal of reducing unin-
tentional injuries and deaths in
children under 15 years of age.
Bike Helmet Safety was
included in the program and
has continued, providing edu-
cation and free helmets for
children who need them.
According the Oregon
SAFEKIDS program, 52 per-
cent of children under the age
of 14 don’t always wear a hel-
met when riding a bike. With
proper helmet use, the risk of
serious head injury in children
