S TANDOUT Tickets for Crab Crack available now SEASON COURTESY PHOTO C ommunity Chorus of Florence wrapped up a successful Christmas season during a concert held at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw, drawing full audiences Dec. 10 and 11. The Sunday afternoon concert was overflowing and required extra seating. Chorus members provided cookies and apple cider during intermissions. Highlights of the concert included performances by the Presbyterian Bell Choir, the Siuslaw Middle School choir and the Florence Nightingales. There were several solos by chorus mem- bers, including Siuslaw High School sophomore Patrick Rowley. Conductor Jennifer Weier’s piano solo of “Oh Holy Night” was another special highlight for audience members. This season, the Community Chorus also provided a special performance for residents of Spruce Point Assisted Living. Registration for the spring session will be held Jan. 23, at 6 p.m., at the Cross Road Church on 10th and Maple streets in Florence. Viewfinders name December contest winners Viewfinders “Speed” photography contest winners were (from left): Rudy Gargioni, Jane Pittenger and Curt Peters FLORENCE—The Siuslaw View finders Camera Club’s theme for December was “Speed.” Members came up with an interesting variety of photos. First place went to Rudy Gargioni with a picture of a sports car racing along the highway. 1 8 • C OAST Jane Pittenger’s second-place photo was a composite of a kayak going over a cliff. Third place went to Curt Peters with a photo of a hydroplane speed boat racing at Lakeside. The next meeting of Viewfinders will be Monday, Jan. 9, in the Bromley Room C ENTRAL • A r t s & E n t e r t a i n m e n t • J A N U AR Y 2 0 1 7 of the Siuslaw Public Library, 1460 Ninth St. The theme for December is “In Flight.” In addition, there will be a presentation by noted award winning photographer David Vanderlip titled “Exposure, Motion and Depth-of-Field.” The sixth annual Florence Crab Crack is a sure fire remedy for the dreaded “cabin fever,” which threatens to afflict the general populace of the central Oregon coast every winter. Get your ticket and join the other 399 people who will attend limited-seating Crab Crack at the Florence Events Center on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. Get rid of those “cabin fever blues” by enjoying great food and company while aiding the less fortunate in this area. All the proceeds from this event will benefit Florence Food Share, a local food pantry that provides resources to those fac- ing hunger in western Lane County. Oregon coast Dungeness crab, along with pasta, coleslaw, garlic bread, sodas, coffee and BJ’s dessert, will be served by “crab head” volunteers. A no-host bar will also be available. While savoring the delectable crustaceans and side dishes, attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase one or many of the special silent auc- tion items. Tickets to this event are $35 each, with only 400 tickets to be available. The deadline for tick- et purchases is Jan. 25 and will not be available at the door. Past Crab Cracks have sold out early.
