SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2016 Pedestrian struck by car, killed in Yachats YACHATS — On Dec. 20, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Oregon State Police Troopers responded to a single-vehicle accident involving a pedestri- an was fatally struck by the vehicle on Highway 101 near milepost 164 in Yachats. The preliminary investiga- tion revealed a 2007, silver Chevrolet HHR was north- bound when it crashed into a white male adult in the north- bound lane of travel. The driver of the HHR was identified as Amy R. Hartz, 30, of Waldport. The deceased was identified as Travis J. G RAND 3 A OPENING Eppinghaus, 37, also of Waldport. Eppinghaus was wearing dark clothes and was walking in the northbound lane of trav- el, carrying a dog. Eppinghaus was pronounced deceased at the scene. Eppinghaus’ dog was also deceased at the scene. Hartz stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
