2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2016 OBITUARY DANIELSON —Floyd Danielson, 91, of Swisshome, passed away Dec. 16, 2016, in Springfield, Ore. Floyd was born Nov. 26, 1925, in S e e l e y, Wisc., the son of Carl Danielson and Cornelia Galtrud. F l o y d Danielson married Floyd Donna Olson Danielson in 1944. They later divorced. He married Helen Roth of Florence in 1970, and she pre- ceded him in death in 2011. In 1950, Floyd moved his family from Wisconsin to Swisshome, Ore., and built a home that he would live in for the next 65 years. An amputee as a result of a farming accident in Wisconsin, Floyd was lured to Oregon by family that had moved west to work in the lumber industry. Floyd enjoyed years of mill work but most of all he enjoyed showing others that he could do anything they could, and of course, “always better.” He enjoyed traveling around the world to visit his children, but most of all he enjoyed his time as the self-proclaimed Mayor of “Gobblers Knob,” his home and farm. Floyd was preceded in death by his brother Harley, killed in action during WWII; and his grandson, Jim Ray Stephens. He is survived by brothers: Norman of Boyceville, Wisconsin; Glen of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Edgar of Harrisburg, Ore.; his children Michael Danielson (Dawn) of Eugene, Polly Noble of Cottage Grove, Kathy Danielson (Jim) of Portland, Julie Stephens (Curt) of Sweet Home, and John Danielson of Palm Springs; six grandchil- dren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. A service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m., at Major Family Funeral Home, 112 North A St., in Springfield, Ore. A reception to follow. Burial will take place at Mapleton Pioneer Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be given in Floyd’s name to the Swisshome Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 10, Swisshome, OR 97480. KENT—Brandon Kent LeVesque, formerly of Mapleton, passed away Dec. 18, 2016, in Reedsport. Brandon was born in Eugene, Ore., Nov. 4, 1966, and graduated from Mapleton High School. He worked for Davidson Industries and was a welder in Eugene. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed salmon fishing. He was a talented artist and enjoyed playing the keyboard and guitar. Brandon is survived by his parents, Patrick and Cheryl LeVesque, of Reedsport; his son Tyler LeVesque, of Portland; his sisters Sandi Kobilansky of Gold Canyon, Ariz., and Aimee Fierros of Apache Junction, Ariz. A memorial service will be held at the Mapleton Grange on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at 3 p.m. Florence police to hold extra DUII enforcement The Florence Police Department has received grant funding to support additional DUII enforcement during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period, Dec. 15 through Jan. 1. High visibility enforcement, accomplished by increasing the number of officers on the streets aggressively seeking out impaired drivers, is designed to deter people from driving while intoxicated or otherwise impaired. For more information, con- tact the Florence Police Department at 541-997-3515. Florence Municipal Court Dec. 13 Jim Randolph Breland pleaded no contest to criminal trespass and theft. He was sentenced to six days in Florence City Jail. He must pay $425 in fines and be in or about the premises or place of employment of the victim. Dakota James Ellis-Morgan pleaded no contest to disor- derly conduct. He was sen- tenced to five days in Florence City Jail and must report to Siuslaw Batterer’s Intervention Program. He must pay $400 in fines and not contact or be in or about the residence or place of employ- ment of the victim. Patricia Anne Mill pleaded no contest to initiating a false police report. She must pay $325 in fines. Brian Lee Holcomb plead- ed no contest to harassment. He must pay $225 in fines and not contact or be in or about the residence or place of employment of the victim. Brandon Mich Jones plead- ed DUII. He was sentenced to seven days in Florence City Jail and must report to treat- ment. He must pay $2,270 in fines and his driver’s license is suspended for three years. Nikki Ray Nagrone plead- ed guilty of theft and two counts of criminal trespass. She was sentenced to two days in Florence City Jail and must report to treatment. She must pay $533 in fines and not be in or about the premis- es or place of employment of the victim. Police department warns of school advertising scam The Florence Police Department has become aware of multiple businesses and or residents in the Florence area being contacted by a male who identifies him- self as “James” who is offer- ing to sell or renew advertis- ing space in Siuslaw athletic events programs or calendars. Varying amounts have been requested ranging from $99 to $129. Some of these calls have shown up as unidentified caller, or with a local number FRAA to host Winter Artisan Fair The 15th annual Winter Music Artisan Fair will be a two-day event, Saturday, Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a must-see event for the weekend and admis- sion to the Artisan Fair is free. This year, the Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) will be the event committee for the Artisan Fair. There will be artisans, both local and regional, who will come and demonstrate their creative talents and bring their latest creations. The artisans will vary from wood craft to herbs; knit, cro- chet and fiber creations to ward off the winter’s chill; artwork to stir the imagina- tion and tastings to warm the heart. Siuslaw schools have advised the Florence Police Department that this is not legitimate solicitation activity. Some who have been con- tacted have been deterred from making payments direct- ly to the school, and instead this individual asks to send an invoice. Citizens are reminded to be diligent whenever solicited for funds over the phone or via other electronic means. Per Siuslaw School District staff, Siuslaw High School does not take any payments for any products or services over the phone, nor do they have the ability to accept credit card payments. Legitimate payments for services such as being dis- cussed would have to be made by check or cash and checks would be requested to be payable to “Siuslaw High School” or SHS.
