SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2016 L EARNING OMB boat registrations due soon THE ROPES The Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) is mailing approximately 78,000 boat registration renewal notices mid- November, to boaters whose boat regis- tration expires Dec. 31. Using the OMB’s online storefront, RegLine (redge-line) is the fastest way for boaters to renew boat registrations. Options to renew include a printable temporary permit to use the boat right away. This is the fastest option for single boat renewals. Customers can click on the 2018 decal image at www.boatoregon.com, which redirects to RegLine. Click on the “Boat Renewal” tab and enter the Certificate of Number (OR number) and PIN from the renewal notice. Customers needing to update their address and contact information or need- ing to renew multiple boat registrations with a single payment, need to login to their account. For boaters who choose to renew by mail, they can detach and mail the remit- tance coupon they receive in the mail with a check or money order. One pay- ment can also be mailed with multiple coupons. Boaters can also go register through a local boat registration agent by taking the boat registration renewal notice to a local agent, who can charge an additional fee up to $8. For a list of agents in your area, visit www.boatoregon.com. Fishing SILETZ RIVER: Steelhead, Chinook from 1B PHOTOS BY NED HICKSON/SIUSLAW NEWS during the fall salmon return. Anglers are reminded that from Knight Park boat ramp to Sulphur Creek from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, angling is restricted to single point hook metal lures, fly angling or salmon bobber angling. This week, coaches and members of Siuslaw’s varsity wrestling team are working with members of the elementary school Lil’ Toads Wrestling program in preparation for an exhi- bition tournament this Friday in SHS’s main gym. “It’s a great way for our high school wrestlers to give back to a program that has given them so much,” said Viking coach Neil Wartnik. Friday’s tournament is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The online registration system is also integrated with other Marine Board serv- ices where boaters can order any of the following: • Boater Education Card or Replacement Card • Certificate of Title for a Boat and Replacement Title • Certificate of Number (Boat Registration Card with OR number) with or without Registration Decals and Replacement Stickers • Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Permits • Outfitter and Guide Registration and Renewals • Charter Boat License Application and Renewal As a result of legislation in 2015, the cost for registration is now $4.50 per foot, rounded to the highest foot. A $5 surcharge is also added to the reg- istration fee for the Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention fund that pays for inspection stations, decontamination equipment, inspectors, signage and edu- cation materials. The Marine Board is funded entirely by motorized boat registrations, motor- boat fuel tax and receives federal funding to support services to boaters. Nearly .86 cents of every dollar are returned to boaters in the form of law enforcement services, boat ramps, rest- rooms (floating and land-based), parking, boarding floats, and boating safety classes and information. The Siletz River and bay is open for Chinook salmon. Fishing is slow. Fish are throughout the bay and river. Trolling herring in the lower bay is an effective technique. Eggs and bobber or drifting eggs can be productive in the upper bay and river as the season progresses.
