SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2016 Additional senior resources OBITUARIES SAXON—Darwin Earl Saxon, 80, of Florence, passed away Oct. 23, 2016. Darwin was born June 15, 1936. He was a service s t a t i o n owner and retired in Darwin Saxon 1994. He lived in the Florence community for 61 years and was a proud member of the Florence Moose and Elks Lodge. He is survived by his chil- dren: Bob, Brad, Mark, Robin and Shane Saxon; and his brothers and sisters: Cecil, Don, Sandy and Sharon A memorial service was held at the Reedsport Moose Lodge on Saturday, Oct. 29. MEAD—Daniel L. Mead, 64, of Florence, passed away Oct. 19, 2016, from bone can- cer. He was born March 13, 1952, to Lois Robetson and Garland Mead. He graduated f r o m Siuslaw H i g h School, in 1970 and married Daniel Mead D e b b i e (Berry) M e a d . Together, they had three chil- dren: Daniel Jr. (Rylyn), Johnathon and Jennifer Mead, who survive him. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Lincoln and Cheyene; his sis- ters Donna Overton (Brian) and Dianne Laloli (John), and brother Duane Robertson (Mary). Dan joined his brother Dennis, his sister Gayle, his father Gary, stepfather Morrie, neice Tasha and great neice Kholie in Heaven. Dan enjoyed camping with his family, playing Farmville with many freidns, and helping anyone he could. He served in the U.S. Navy for several years and became a TV repairman. A celebration of his life will be held Nov. 12 at the Laloli residence at noon. LEFF—Laura Bell Leff, young at 87, of Florence, passed away T h u r s d a y, Sept. 22, 2016. L a u r a was born April 22, 1929, to Laura Leff Robert and Viletta Hill of Eugene, who settled to Oregon from Oklahoma. Laura labored as a waitress before becoming a devoted wife and dedicated mother. In 1948, Laura Hill was mar- ried to a logger, Forrest Leff, and together they raised four children: Vicky, Randy, Karen and Scott. Laura was sadly preceded in rest by Forrest; Randy and Karen, all of whom are dearly missed. Laura leaves a long legacy of family: four grand- children: Trent, Cherry, Eric and Marc; along with 10 great- grandchildren. Laura was “Mom” to many more than just her own, and we couldn’t ask for a better exam- ple of what being a mom really was about. A memorial celebration will be held in her honor at later date. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
