The Friends of Florence Events Center have just the answer: another Wallflowers and Wine event with talented instructor John Leasure! This will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 6:30 p.m., in the Backstage area at the FEC. These events have gotten rave reviews, and even if you have never painted before, you will leave with a fantastic painting. The subject in November will be lovely roses. The timing of this class is great, also, as you may just create the perfect gift to give to that special some- one for Christmas. The cost is $45, which includes all supplies, a glass of wine, and appetizers. Tickets for this event are available at the FEC Box Office. Space is limited, so sign up soon. SEAcoast From page 1 “Bria Skonberg’s New Orleans Jazz Band” during a Sunday afternoon tea dance Feb. 26, at 4 p.m. Bria is a spe- cialist in classic American hot jazz. She leads her band, wails on the trumpet, and beautifully vocalizes jazz standards with energy and pizzazz. SEA is providing Florence fans of brass with a much-needed dose of ener- gy with the Dallas Brass on Wednesday, March 29, at 7 p.m. The quintet mas- ters all aspects of the brass repertoire: classical, Dixieland, swing, show tunes and more as they provide a musical travelogue through American instru- mental history. On Wednesday, April 26, SEA pres- ents “Barrage 8,” a high-energy dose of modern string instruments and move- ment. Their innovative stage perform- ance blends wonderfully with their musical talent — and strings like you have never heard them before. Showtime is 7 p.m. On Wednesday, May 24, at 7 p.m., it will be an incompara- ble night for keyboard fans: dueling pianos when “The Piano Caméléons” will ring out the SEA season on two grand pianos, expertly manned by a pair of virtuoso pianists. They revisit great classic pieces with interpretations touched by traditional jazz, world beat and other influences. It will be a spectacle for the eyes, ears and soul. Tickets can be purchased at the Florence Events Center box office, 715 Quince St., by phone at 541-997-1994 during regular business hours or online at www.eventscenter.org. Artist profiles, show times, links to video clips, and more are available at www.SEA coastEA.org. H IGH - ENERGY STRING BAND ‘B ARRAGE 8’ WILL PERFORM A PRIL 26 Pirates From page 1 only solace is that Mabel agrees to wait for him faithfully. Add in some pirates, the local guard and a dozen faithful daughters and you’ve got a musical sure to delight. The creative team that brought “Les Misérables” to local audiences has gath- ered a stellar cast of new and old faces to bring Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic comic opera to the Florence stage. By now you’ve met the cast — Sean Abplanalp as Frederic, Hilary Roach as Mabel, Sandy Vaccaro as the Pirate King, Jim Wellington as the major gen- eral, Dana Rodet as the sergeant and Crystal Farnsworth as Ruth — but the local all-star cast is led by a talented and versatile directorial team. Leah Goodwin takes the helm of “Pirates” as director. Often taking the role of stage manager, Goodwin was last seen on stage of Last Resort Player’s “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” in 2015. She also directed “Les Misérables” in 2014. Goodwin’s assistant director and stage manager is the organized and efficient Mary Conley. Laura Merz is the “argh-tistic” (artis- tic) music director. She is joined by Jen Weier as music director and conductor. Annie Schmidt, a founding member of Last Resort Players, and Sally Wantz are producing “Pirates.” Not only that, they both play pirates, too. A contingent of singing pirates and policemen, trilling ladies and a full orchestra create the rest of the “Pirates” crew. Filled with boisterous songs, glib lines and an all-star cast, this production is not a show to be missed. Last Resort Players will play “Pirates of Penzance” at Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St., the weekends of Nov. 4 to 6 and 11 to 13, with 7 p.m. evening and 2 p.m. matinee perform- ances on Nov. 6 and 13. Tickets are $20 each and are avail- able now at 541-997-1994 or online at www.eventcenter.org. 715 Quince Street | www.eventcenter.org 541-997-1994 | 888-968-4086
