2 B SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2016 The sixth annual Siuslaw Open, presented by PeaceHeath Medical Center and Abel Insurance, was held at Ocean Dunes on Sept. 10. “The weather was perfect and a great crew of golfers made for the best Siuslaw Open ever,” said Siuslaw Outreach Services (SOS) executive director David Wiegan. “The tournament netted $8,414 for SOS services, which was a new record.” Bagpiper Ron Wallace set the mood prior to the shotgun start, and Pop’s Smokehouse provided lunch to great reviews. Although the Ford F-150 was not won, Laurie Hanslits came within 37 and 1/2 inches of taking home the big prize with her tee shot on hole 4, which was sponsored by Johnston Motors. After the tournament, Dr. Brian Holmes had a shot at sinking a 60 foot putt for $5,000 and the ball went right over the cup — but not quite in it. All told, an estimated $3,700 worth of prizes was won in total by the participants. First place for low gross at 54 went to Donald Chapman, Mark Mobley, Shaun Mobley and Ryan Dawes; second place gross at 57 went to Justin Mans, Jake Wells, Craig Stewart and Robert Irvin; third place gross at 59 went to Zev Statler, John Kaufman, Darth Watkins and Piper Harris. Fourth place gross at 61 went to Brian Holmes, Royce Holmes, Chad Kanavel and Tony Hanks. Low net winners at 36 were James Sangrey, Lynette Wikstrom, Deb Lamb and Craig Sanders; second at 40 were Laurie Hanslits, Victoria Olhiser, Gillian Pack and Pam Pazar; third-place net at 41 went to John Merrick, Victor Van de Venter and Steve Brooks. Coming in fourth at 42 strokes were Louis Mawcinitt, Mariann Mawcinitt, Jose Wren and Patrick Hendrix. KP winners were Laurie Hanslits, M.J. Flowerday, Bob Sullivan and Mark Mobley. Straight Drive honors went to Jeanette Winterholden and Bob Flowerday. Long Drive winners were Bobbi Wells and Jake Wells. The 65-foot putting contest and $100 money tree were won by Justin Mans, putting the ball to within about 12 inches from the cup. There would be no tourna- ment without the generousity of sponsors. Prize sponsors were Don Chapin, Jodi Newby, Nature’s Corner Café and the SOS Board of Directors. Prize donors were 1285 Restobar, Earthworks Gallery (Yachats), Bridgewater Fish House, Oregon Coast Magazine, Mo’s Restaurant, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Drift Inn (Yachats), Dairy Queen, Goodman’s Floor Coverings, C&M Stables and Periwinkle Station. Refreshments were donated by Grocery Outlet, and the banner was donated by Florence Sign Shop. “Thanks also to Bob Rannow and the great crew at Ocean Dunes,” said Wiegan.
