Author Bibi Gaston will be sharing what she learned in researching her new book, “Gifford Pinchot and the First Foresters,” which includes anecdotes and writings from the original rangers and foresters on their work, their lives, the young Forest Service and the early conservation movement. The talk will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center. National Public Lands Day is a fee-free day for all federal public lands. Sandpines Golf Links hosted its first Stroke Play Championship last weekend, Sept. 17 and 18, with John Maher winning the tournament after a two-day total score of 154 strokes. “This individual stroke play championship will be our pre- mier annual tournament going forward,” Sandpines General Manager Rick Reed said of the event, which was played under rain and gray conditions. Sponsors of the tournament included TR Hunter Real Estate, Friends of Sandpines Ron and Catherine Green, Coast Real Estate Inc., and Tony Wells from Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate.
