Cutthroat, Chinook
The Siuslaw River and
bay is open for Chinook
salmon through Dec. 31.
Fishing is slow but will
pick up over the next sev-
eral weeks. Trolling her-
ring in the lower bay is an
effective technique. Eggs
and bobber or drifting eggs
can be productive in the
upper bay and river as the
season progresses.
For cutthroat trout, cast-
ing small spinners, spoons
or fly fishing streamers or
dry flies can be very effec-
tive. Angling for all species
in streams above tidewater
is now open. Casting small
spinners, spoons or fly
fishing streamers or dry
flies can be very effective.

from Brandt halfway through the
first quarter.
But in the second half, it was
all Siuslaw, beginning with a
fumble recovery by Reavis on
the second play of the half. From
there, Brandt found Reavis on a
44-yard bomb that put the Viks
ahead 12-0.
Reavis scored again in the
fourth quarter after tipping the
ball and snatching it up en route
to the end zone from 38 yards.
Senior linebacker Nick
Steinman also had an intercep-
tion for a touchdown, running the
ball 69 yards for the score with
4:24 remaining in the game. His
touchdown came less than seven
minutes after junior runningback
Quincy Rusk breached the end
zone on a 1-yard carry less than
30 second into the fourth quarter.
“You earned this,” Siuslaw
coach Jamin Pool said to his
players after the game. “As
coaches, we felt something dif-
ferent this week during practice.
It was heart. You brought it to
every practice and you brought it
tonight.”
