Helen, who had celebrated her 106th birthday this year, was still putting her many tal- ents to use by crocheting lap blankets for Spruce Point Care Unit guests and afghans for veterans at the hospital in Roseberg, Ore. Many crib blankets were made for the Florence Parenting Center. She enjoyed creating items for her daughter Kat’s boutique in Florence, and creating jewel- ry for family and friends. She especially enjoyed the time she was able to don her lovely hats and join her Red Hat Ladies in their outings and get-togethers. She was featured on the “Today Show” as part of Willard Scott’s birthday tribute and received a special card from President and Mrs. Obama on the occasion of her 100th birthday. Helen was a lady who will be greatly missed. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Burns’s Riverside Chapel in Florence. There will be a celebration of life held for both Helen and Western Lane Ambulance District Invites You to LEARN CPR Oregon Coast Humane Society (OCHS) volunteers are collecting items for the upcoming annual Christmas Store, a major fundraiser for the animal shelter. OCHS is asking the com- munity to donate items that went unsold during the City- Wide Garage Sale last week- end to the animal shelter. Items such as warm shirts, jackets, sweaters, caps and mittens are always popular items heading into winter, as well as Christmas décor, including wreaths and trees, tree ornaments, indoor and outdoor lights and dishes. Other popular items are games, books and toys in good condition, and can be dropped off to the OCHS Thrift Store, 1193 Bay St. in Old Town. Helen was born June 4, 1910, in New Britain, Conn., to Helen Adam and Cunningham Marianne Czarnicki, who had immigrat- ed to the United States from Poland. Helen was married for 67 years to James, who passed away in 2009. Helen lived in Florence for 12 years, having relocated from San Diego, Calif., and Shady Cove, Ore. Helen was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by one sister, Alberta, and her two daughters: Maryann Galer of Portland and Kat Cunningham of Florence. She also leaves behind a granddaughter, Kathy Cruz, and her husband, Daniel; great- grandson Tyler; grandson David Spickler and great- Humane Society seeks yard sale donations James, time to be announced.
