2 C SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10, 2016 Bike the Rogue cycling event gearing up for annual race GOLD BEACH — The sce- nic seventh annual Bike the Rogue (BTR) road bicycling event takes place Saturday, Sept. 10, at Buffington Park in Gold Beach. The event features three dif- ferent rides on low-traffic roads: 25 miles/1,100 vertical feet ($30); 40 miles/2,000 ver- tical feet ($40); and 100km/62.5 miles/4,000 verti- cal feet ($50). All three routes follow the banks of the Rogue River and cross two bridges in this wild and remote southwestern cor- ner of Oregon. Both the 40- mile and the 100km rides finish along the Pacific Ocean, with panoramic views of beaches, sea stacks and rugged coastline. Each rider’s entrance fee COURTESY PHOTO includes a free ticket ($15 value) to the Gold Beach Brew Cyclists approach the home stretch during last year’s Bike the Rogue event. South Coast Bicycles in Bandon, Ore., provides a sag wagon stocked with spare parts and a mechanic to assist with any mechanical problems, and the City of Gold Beach donates the re-useable goody bags to the event. BTR also welcomes a new sponsor this year, Century 21 Agate Realty. Registration starts at 7 a.m. in Buffington Park. The entrance to the park is 3 blocks east of Highway 101 on Gauntlet Street in Gold Beach. Anyone pre-registering with a postmark before Sept. 1 receives $5 off the entry fee, per rider.
