A major part of that grading is flow testing the water systems.” The ISO rating is a number that reflects the overall effec- tiveness of the department. Barrett also said there is a possibility of dirty water being produced due to the scouring of the water mains. “We will do our very best to minimize this problem,” Barrett said. Should dirty water occur, residents are asked to refrain from washing laundry or per- forming other clean water activities until the water clears up, usually within six to 12 hours. “Thank you or your patience and understanding during this project,” Barrett said. Residents are asked to notify Heceta Water PUD at 541-997- 2446 should they experience dirty water. ‘Vision for 2025’ to be presented at PFLAG Russ Pierson, director of Lane Community College Florence Center, will present a vision for the region Aug. 9, during the monthly PFLAG meeting at the Siuslaw Public Library. The information was com- piled by civic, community and business leaders during a two-year process. The meeting, free and open to the public, starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Bromley Room. Refreshments will be served. The Siuslaw Regional Visioning Process, under- written by the Ford Family Foundation, produced a working document and its direction and recommenda- tions are overseen by a group of “Vision Keepers” who meet regularly. PFLAG, which was an invitee to the process, hopes anyone interested in how the LGBT and Ally community can contribute to the region’s vitality will join in for this special presentation. PFLAG is the country’s largest organization for par- ents, families, friends and straight allies united with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. Crews to complete work on 35th Street Aug. 10–12 The City of Florence will be completing a hot oil chip and fog seal, as well as a MicroCoat application, on 35th Street between Pine and Siano Loop from Wednesday, Aug. 10, to Friday, Aug. 12, depending on the weather. As with any street construc- tion project, there will be slight delays in the area. Residents are advised to use alternate routes to avoid the work area between Aug. 10 and 12. Drivers should slow down and be patient and attentive to the traffic control flaggers. Chip Sealing is a common pavement maintenance prac- tice that extends pavement life and provides a good driving surface. With chip seals, a thin film of heated asphalt liquid is sprayed on the road surface, followed by the placement of small aggregate “chips.” The chips are compacted to orient the chips for maximum adher- ence to the asphalt, and excess stone is swept from the sur- face. A fog seal is then applied to further bind the chips to the asphalt liquid, protect the chip seal from UV rays and finish the road preservation. The city will apply a MicroCoat to the bike lanes along 35th Street, which is a micro seal coating system that will protect the bike lanes from degradation. MicroCoat was specifically designed for the Pacific Northwest and pro- vides a smoother surface for bicyclists and pedestrians. The pigment in the application will provide additional definition to the bike lanes to improve visibility and safety.
