SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, JULY 27, 2016 New gaming experience set to begin at Three Rivers DAR supports Florence Police Oregon Dunes Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is pre- senting a variegated maple tree to the Florence Police Department on tomorrow, July 28, at 3 p.m. at the Florence Justice Center, 900 Greenwood St. Under DAR’s “patriotism” goal, local members wanted to honor police in light of the latest nationwide attack on the police. The public is invited to attend and wear blue as DAR shows its appreciation and support for local law enforce- ment. Florence Police Tom Turner, police officers, mem- bers as DAR as “ladies in blue” and other officials will attend. LOCAL BOOK LAUNCH AT SIUSLAW PIONEER MUSEUM Westlake Girl tells the childhood adventures of 97-year-old Frieda Wampler, who was raised in Westlake, Oregon during the 1920s and ‘30s. On Saturday, July 30, at 4 PM, Frieda’s son and co-author, Larry Wampler, will present a special program on Frieda’s life and sign the fi rst copies of Westlake Girl to be sold here on the coast. Larry will return to the museum to sign books and chat from 2-4 PM on Sunday, July 31. 3 A Three Rivers Casino Resort in Florence will unveil a new casino gaming experience during a ribbon cutting cere- mony set for Friday, July 29, at noon. The new casino floor will feature a private Keno and poker lounge with a series of upcoming poker tournaments. Three Rivers also opens a brand new nonsmoking sec- tion with 150 games set in nearly 12,000 square feet. The groundbreaking renovation marks 40 percent of gaming floor dedicated to nonsmok- ing. “We are committed to mak- ing improvements that benefit all of our guests,” said Mike Rose, COO at Three Rivers Casino Resort. “We are pro- viding them with the options they’ve been asking for that allow them to choose their gaming environment.” In addition to an expanded nonsmoking area, the 14,000 square feet dedicated to smok- ing now has more than 550 games. Hwy 126 paving Noti to Veneta has begun VENETA — Travelers should expect single lane clo- sures as paving on Oregon Highway 126 (Florence to Eugene) began Monday, July 25, and will continue through the end of October. Paving will occur be- tween Torrence Road and Cornerstone Drive, Sunday WEDNESDAY THURSDAY through Thursday night, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. In addition to paving seven miles of roadway, work will include replacing or adjusting signs and guard rails, placing a new bridge membrane on the bridge just west of Veneta, and installing ADA side- walk ramps at the OR 200 Territorial Highway Intersection. During the paving, delays of up to 20 minutes should be expected.
