She is known for her vivid colors and contemporary realis- tic style. Though she is a Florence local, Goodwin- Chronister’s work has been col- lected across the country. This project was the result of a “Call to Artists” facilitated by FRAA in partnership with OPB in May, with the selection being made June 27. The judges from FRAA selected the finalists from all entries submitted and represen- tatives from OPB deciding the overall winner. It was a difficult task for judges, who looked through numerous high quality submissions. “We are thrilled to showcase Colleen’s work in our Florence branch,” said Ellen Huntingdon, marketing coordi- nator at Oregon Pacific Bank. “Harlen and all of the Judges at FRAA were an absolute pleas- ure to work with and extremely professional. “Our partnership and success is just one small example of how art can truly bring the community together in a mean- ingful way.” To learn more about FRAA and its work within the Florence community, visit www.fraaoregon.org or call 541-997-4435. 11:20 AM 11:20 AM THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 3D Or just call COURTESY PHOTO 541-997-9614 RN L A NE AM B U L AN C E Health care leadership training offered On July 22, 23, 29 and 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Eugene (call for specific loca- tion), Eugene- and Florence- area residents can train as vol- unteer workshop leaders for the Living Well with Chronic Conditions program. Volunteers will travel to Eugene for four days to receive training; Florence-area resi- dents will be reimbursed for travel expenses. Living Well with Chronic Conditions is a six-week work- shop program developed by Stanford School of Medicine to assist adults with chronic health conditions to achieve better health outcomes by learning important skills and information related to sleep, exercise, relaxation, nutrition, better communication with medical professionals, and more. After they are trained, vol- unteers will co-teach at least one six-week workshop ses- sion per year in Florence or Eugene. Ongoing training and tech- nical support will be available from the program coordinator, who is based out of Eugene. Volunteers earn a small stipend after completing each 6-week workshop. Ideal candi- dates for this volunteer oppor- tunity are individuals with per- sonal experience with chronic illness (either themselves or as a caregiver for someone), an interest in working with diverse individuals in a warm, non-judgmental way, is com- fortable speaking in a group, and who is comfortable follow- ing a detailed, scripted curricu- lum. Input sought for waste management changes Lane County’s Waste Management Division is fac- ing a $1.5 million imbalance between the revenue it gener- ates and the cost to ensure the continued and future opera- tion of Short Mountain Landfill, the county’s only permitted landfill for house- hold and commercial wastes. The county contracted with a professional solid waste consulting firm to identify options to reduce costs. Recommendations in the report include eliminating the senior discount and recy- cling discount programs. The report also recom- mends the closure of eight rural transfer stations: Creswell, London, Mapleton, McKenzie Bridge, Rattle- snake, Sharps Creek, Swisshome and Walton. The following public input meetings have been sched- uled prior to board discussion in August: Wednesday, July 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Walton Fire Station. Thursday, July 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Harris Hall (125 E. 8th Ave., Eugene). Feedback can also be submitted via email to: wastemgmt@co.lane.or.us.
