The floating restroom is intended to relieve congestion at the port’s two-lane boat ramp and the land-based rest- rooms located on port property by offering fishermen and crab- bers a relief station mid-river. The port applied for and received a grant in 2013 to pur- chase and install the floating restroom. Most of the funding was provided by a federal Clean Vessel Act grant from the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund. The esti- mated project cost upon instal- lation is $65,000. The Oregon Marine Board issued a statement that said, “Floating restrooms will better serve boaters during the heavi- est crabbing and fishing sea- sons, and are available for all forms of boaters, from paddlers to cruisers. Floating restrooms statewide captured over 16,000 gallons of sewage in 2015, which helps protect the delicate balance of our waterways.” The port plans to hold a press conference Thursday, May 26, to announce the launch date of the restroom and hold a contest to name the facility.
