Windows should remain d e c o r a t e d throughout the three-day Rhododendron Festival. Entry forms are available at www.florencechamber.com. Drop completed entry forms off at the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center, 290 Highway 101, by Monday, May 16. Judging will occur between May 17 and 19. Any business whose win- dows are not ready in time for judging will be disqualified. Businesses may loan out their windows to other busi- nesses for the contest. Winners will be presented with a plaque they can proudly display in their business and will be featured in media posts. The theme for this year’s window display contest and the entire festival is “Catch the Wave!” The Window Display contest is open to any business or organization in the City of Florence. There is no entry fee, and there are no divisions this year. Windows will be judged on the following: Overall appearance and attractiveness. Use of this year’s Rhododendron Festival theme “Catch the Wave!” Use of color — this year’s logo has lots of colors! Creativity and originality. Signage: The window should have a sign or window paint that reads: “Rhododen- dron Festival May 20 to 22, 2016” that can be read from the street and be less than 50 percent of the total window 12:45 PM 3:15 PM 5:45 PM 8:15 PM 12:30 PM 3:00 PM 5:30 PM 8:00 PM Every year local Girl Scout troops offer people the oppor- tunity to purchase Girl Scout cookies for charities and local nonprofit organizations and services through a program called “The Gift of Sharing.” Troop 11752 leader Lisa Spencer said, “As part of the Girl Scout cookie sales, ‘The Gift of Sharing’ is offered to people that want to help the Girl Scouts, but don’t want to purchase cookies. ‘The Gift of Sharing’ allows those peo- ple to purchase cookies, then each individual troop chooses a charity or nonprofit organi- zation to receive the cook- ies.” This year, troop 11752 chose Florence Food Share to receive the 40 boxes of cook- ies the troop sold as part of the program. Other Florence area troops donated cookies to Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue and the Florence Police Department. “We let the girls decide,” Spencer said. “It is all girl led.
