4 B SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, MARCH 30, 2016 S PRING S P O R T S P R E V I E W 2016 S IUSLAW TRACK AND FIELD Coaching staff: Chris Johnson (head coach); Mary Dodson (jumps); Anna Moser (sprints); Steve Moser, Steve Fandrey and Jack Butler (distance); Max Perry (discus, shot put); Dick Richmond (high jump), Pat Towne (throws) Last year’s record: The Viking girls won the district title and the boys fin- ished third in the Far West. Siuslaw sent 16 athletes to the 4A state meet. Mikaela Siegel, who won the state 4A title in the 100-meter hurdles, could defend her title again this season. O UTLOOK : Once again, the Vikings are returning a solid group from both of last year’s teams, including many athletes from this year’s dis- trict title-winning girls’ and sec- ond-place boys’ cross country pro- grams — each of which made it to state, with the girls winning the state 4A title. That means another strong field of distance runners, as well as a Coach Chris Johnson budding group of throwers, led by sophomore Trent Reavis and junior Carissa Oliver. In the sprints, juniors Destinie Tatum and Annmarie Precht will lead the charge for the girls, with junior Abby Watkins joining Siegel on the jumps runway. For the boys, the short races aren’t a strong suit, but the Viks will make up for it in the longer races with freshman Murray Bingham and sophomore Isaac Griffes.
