SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, JANUARY 9, 2016 Three Rivers’ toy, food drive hits record high Brightening the holidays for children has always been the goal of Three Rivers Casino Resort’s toy and canned food drive. Three Rivers extends the program to include Florence and Coos Bay properties. In 2015, Three Rivers Casino Resort hit a record-high in donations with 7,364 pounds of food and nearly 2,000 toys. The annual toy and food drive was held Nov. 1 through Dec. 16 in Florence. During that time, community members were asked to donate new, unwrapped toys and/or three cans of food for $5 in free play at the casino. Three Rivers offered free play one time per week. All donations went to Soroptimists’ annual Christmas and food drive. “We were incredibly grate- ful to extend our annual toy and food drive to both Florence and Coos Bay com- munities this last year,” said Three Rivers COO, Mike 7 A Local student to perform National Anthem Sunday COURTESY PHOTO COURTESY PHOTO Three Rivers Casino Resort team members collect donations for the 2015 toy and food drive in Florence. Community invited to help shape 2025 regional plan Two chances for community members to help shape a vision for the Siuslaw Region are planned in Mapleton and Florence. The meetings are the next step in nearly a year of explo- ration and conversations, led by the Vision Action Team from the Siuslaw Pathways Program. The meetings will be held Thursday, Jan. 21 at Mapleton High School and Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Florence Events Center. Both meetings will be from approximately 5 to 8 p.m., with open house format from 5 to 6 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. A formal presentation of the ideas and concerns will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at both meetings. Anyone residing in Dunes City, Florence and upriver communities from Mapleton to Deadwood is encouraged to attend either meeting or both. The Siuslaw Visioning team has held 10 Focus Group meetings, inviting between 10 to 20 individuals to each meet- ing, ranging in scope from economy and business, educa- tion, health care and age demographics youth to sen- iors. The 2025 Siuslaw Vision is the culmination of the work being done by the Siuslaw Region Visioning Project, sup- ported by Rotary of Florence, The Siuslaw Public Library, the City of Florence and The Ford Family Foundation. The work has grown out of the Pathways program, which was offered to the region by The Ford Family Foundation in 2014. For more information, visit the Pathways website at www. siuslawpathways.com.
