Standing a solid 6-foot-2 with long, silver hair that seems as controlled as his demeanor, he tends to stand out in a crowd. And fortu- nately for Siuslaw, finding Biggs for the new head coaching position for the boys basketball program was a slam-dunk. “It’s really rare to have a coach with his expe- rience and success in a town this size,” says Siuslaw High School Athletic Director Jeromy Graybill. “We’re very excited to have him. He brings a lot and the kids have quickly bought into his philosophy.” The Viks’ new coach sees a lot of similarities to his early years as a high school coach. “My wife and I have lived here a couple of years, and we’ve seen this group play,” says Biggs, whose retired after 37 years of coaching, including 16 years as head coach at Cal State- Hayward. “When I saw them last year, they reminded me of the first high school team I coached. Lots of talent in need of direction.” Nov. 25 10:48am / 6.6 4:47am / 2.0 5:42pm/ -1.4 Nov. 26 12:07am / 7.1 5:36am / 2.2 11:32am / 9.0 6:28pm / -1.5 Nov. 27 12:56am / 7.2 6:24am / 2.4 12:16pm/ 8.7 7:13pm/ -1.4 S IUSLAW IUSLAW N EWS 148 Maple St. Florence 541-997-3441 See BIGGS 4B SIUSLAW RIVER: Chinook, cutthroat trout Fall Chinook fishing is producing fair results with a lot of fish moving to the upper tide water reaches and above.
