I
t’s not hard to find Will Biggs. Standing a
solid 6-foot-2 with long, silver hair that
seems as controlled as his demeanor, he
tends to stand out in a crowd. And fortu-
nately for Siuslaw, finding Biggs for the new
head coaching position for the boys basketball
program was a slam-dunk.
“It’s really rare to have a coach with his expe-
rience and success in a town this size,” says
Siuslaw High School Athletic Director Jeromy
Graybill. “We’re very excited to have him. He
brings a lot and the kids have quickly bought
into his philosophy.”
The Viks’ new coach sees a lot of similarities
to his early years as a high school coach.
“My wife and I have lived here a couple of
years, and we’ve seen this group play,” says
Biggs, whose retired after 37 years of coaching,
including 16 years as head coach at Cal State-
Hayward. “When I saw them last year, they
reminded me of the first high school team I
coached. Lots of talent in need of direction.”

health and fitness today, Nov. 21.
The PTA is hosting its annual Fall
Fitness Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at

The coho salmon fish-
eries in Siltcoos and
Tahkenitch lakes are just
getting going. With some
recent rain and big tide
series fresh coho should be
migrating into the lakes.
Look to fish near the lake
outlet and by the major
tributaries that enter the
lakes.
Casting or trolling spin-
ners or various plugs can
be effective.
Fishing for the various
warmwater fish species is
fair to good. There are
numerous lakes in the
Florence area that can pro-
vide good opportunity and
have both boat and bank
access.
by the PTA.
Event admission is free.
Florence PTA holds the annual fit-
ness fair during the month of
November, in conjunction with the
National PTA’s Healthy Lifestyles
Month.
The National PTA created Healthy
Lifestyles Month because research
shows that a healthy child can
achieve and learn more.
In addition to fun activities and
information on healthy living, the
PTA will have drawings at the end of
the day for bikes, scooters, skate-
boards, footballs and more.
This year, SABC will join the PTA
Fall Fitness Fair by starting the day
off with its first-ever Civil War
Fitness Challenge walk/run.
There will be a 3K walk/run and a
5K awards race, as well as free kids’
races. All SABC activities begin at
the Siuslaw Middle School track and

to create a large, membership-based
nonprofit organization to raise funds
to help support local athletics
