She was sentenced to four days in Florence City Jail. She must pay $65 in fines and not con- tact or be in or about the premises or place of employ- ment of the victim. Aaron Solomona Teo pleaded guilty to resisting arrest, furnishing liquor to a minor and theft. He was sen- tenced to seven days in Florence City Jail. He must pay $1,225 in fines and not contact or be in or about the premises or place of employ- ment of the victim. Jesmine Leah Meltzer pleaded guilty to possession of a forged instrument. She was sentenced to six days in Florence City Jail. She must pay $575 in fines and not con- tact or be in or about the resi- dence or place of employment of the victim. Alan Wayne Heard pleaded guilty to theft and criminal trespass. He was sentenced to five days in Florence City Jail and must report to Emergence Addiction and Mental Health Services. He must pay $475 in fines and not contact or be in or about the residences or places of employment of the victims. Leah Danyell Lokey plead- ed guilty to attempted crimi- nal mischief. She was sen- tenced to four days in Florence City Jail and must report to Options Counseling Services Of Oregon, Inc. She must pay $425 in fines and not contact or be in or about the residence or place of employment of the victim. Mary Dena Harvey pleaded guilty to theft and criminal trespass. She was sentenced to 12 days in Florence City Jail and must report to treat- ment. She must pay $750 in fines and not contact or be in or about the residences, prem- ises or places of employment of the victims. Trevor Carlton Pierce pleaded no contest to driving under the influence of intoxi- cants, driving with a suspend- ed license and refusing a breathalizer test. He was sen- tenced to 55 days in Florence City Jail and must report to treatment. He must pay $3,575 in fines. His driver’s license is revoked for life. Cameron Colton Tyler Hansen pleaded guilty to theft. He must pay $266 in fines and not contact or be in or about the premises or place of employment of the victim. Law enforcement hosts Drug Take Back today The Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Florence Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will be hosting the National Drug Take Back event Saturday, Sept. 26, aimed at providing a resource for Lane County residents to safely, securely and anonymously turn in their unwanted, outdated or expired household medicines. Law enforcement agencies across the nation will be partic- ipating in this event on the same day during the same hours with the goal being to rid our communities of unwanted prescription and over-the- counter medications that could potentially be misused. Bring unwanted, outdated or expired prescription and over- the-counter medications to Bi- Mart, 4310 Highway 101, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Acceptable items: Prescrip- tion medications, over-the- counter medications, vitamins, drug samples, pet medications, ointments, lotions and liquid medicines in glass or leak proof containers. Items such as needles, ther- mometers, bloody or infectious waste, medicines from busi- nesses, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans, inhalers and dia- betic meters can not be accept- ed. In 2014, the Sheriff’s Office participated in two DEA-spon- sored Take Back events and collected more than 440 pounds of prescription medica- tions. In the last Take Back event held in June, personnel collected 212 pounds of med- ications. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines — flushing them down the toilet or throw- ing them in the trash — both pose potential safety and health hazards. If you are unable to attend the Drug Take Back Event and you have prescription or over the counter medications you would like to dispose of, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office has a Drug Drop Box located in its Central Reception lobby in the Lane County Courthouse that is available to accept med- ications Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding legal holidays. No appointment is necessary to drop off medications. ALICE “MARTY” HELMUTH passed away on August 12th at the age of 89. A long-time resident of Dunes City, Marty was in Portland for medical care when she died. Marty was born December 27, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Eckard and Clara Martz. She and her sister Viola had an adventurous childhood, fi shing throughout the North Woods and going from Chicago to Los Angeles and back in a Model T Ford on the then primitive road system. Marty attended Monmouth College and the University of Illinois, graduating with a BS in Bacteriology. She found her true calling later as a teacher, especially enjoying 5th graders. While teaching in Iran, her lesson plans were confi scated by SAVAK, the Shah’s secret police. Marty and her husband, Darrell Neil Helmuth, a petroleum geologist, lived an adventurous life. Th ey resided in Venezuela, Iran and throughout the western United States including twice in Alaska, also traveling the world for pleasure, touring in the Middle East, Europe, Central America and sailing the South Pacifi c. Marty loved the outdoors, rousting the family out for camping, razor clamming and salmon fi shing trips in Alaska and elsewhere. A unique “house” camping experience for all occurred for several weeks aft er the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake in Anchorage. Aft er retiring to their dream cottage on Lake Woahink, Marty and Darrell took an active interest in preserving the lake’s water quality from ill-advised development, including being founding members of the Woahink Lake Association. Marty is survived by son Von Helmuth (m . Elke), daughter Holly Martin (m. Mike), grandchildren Chloe Sannikov, Justin Martin, and Alexey Helmuth, and great grandchild Alisa Sannikov. A private memorial service is planned for December. Donations may be made in her name to Th e Nature Conservancy, one of many environmental and wildlife organizations Marty supported.
