Fatal motorcycle crash shuts down Highway 101 Oregon State Police (OSP) and other emergency respon- ders shut down a stretch of Highway 101 on Tuesday, Sept. 22, for about two hours due to a fatal motorcycle crash. According to OSP, troopers received report of a crash involving multiple motorycles around 2:20 p.m. The crash occurred near milepost 173 north of Florence. Witnesses said three motor- Presented by the Siuslaw News cycles were northbound on Highway 101 and trying to pass two vehicles in a no pass- ing zone when the lead motor- cycle abruptly slowed, caus- ing all three motorcycles to collide. One of the motorcycle oper- ators, a 58-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two other motorcycle operators (males ages 53 and 51) were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. All three riders were German citizens and attempts are being made to notify their families. Their names will be released when notification to next of kin has been made. Highway 101 was closed for approximately two hours in both directions to allow the OSP investigation to be con- ducted. COURTESY PHOTO Oregon State Police shut down both directions of Highway 101 Tuesday to investigate a fatal crash involving three motorcycles. Two adult males are in the hospital with minor injuries. No names have been released. OSP was assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Yachats Fire and Rescue and Western Lane Ambulance. This is an ongoing investi- gation and more information will be released when it is available. Police arrest transient accused of rape Th e Good Life Boomer & Senior Expo Florence Police Department (FPD) arrested Brent Brant, 45, on Monday, Sept. 21, accusing him of rape. According to Lt. John Pitcher, the FPD received a report at approxi- mately 9:10 p.m. that a female had been raped. The police sent officers, who initi- ated an investigation. The investigation is still ongoing, but the FPD arrested Brant, a tran- sient in the area, accusing him of rape, sodomy and sex abuse. Brant was transported to the Lane Cou-nty Jail.
