‘Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?’ Find out July 3, 4 FLORENCE — If you enjoyed last summer’s tribute to the Ink Spots called “If I Didn’t Care,” then you are sure to enjoy Mike Jacobson’s newest offering, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?” Billed as a “classic country music retro- spective with over 45 hits,” this summer’s first production at the Florence Playhouse features the music of such country music icons as Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Kitty Wells, Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Roy Orbison, Dottie West, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Ernest Tubb, Conway Twitty and several others. The memorable music of these country music greats is bound to set your feet a- tappin’ and your heart a-soarin’. Group to share insights into successful writing techniques FLORENCE — On July 14, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., the Creative Crones Writers (CC Writers) will host a presentation in the Bromley Room at Siuslaw Public Library, 1460 Ninth St. Budding or experienced writers are invited to attend and learn tips and tricks for creating your own writing group. Six local women have been meeting as a bimonthly group since 2010. Members are: Pattie Anderson, Jacquie Beveridge, Denise Dee, Barbara Giles, Mary Nulty and Sharon Stiles. The ladies all attended one or more of the Memoir Writing courses taught by retired educator Barbara Giles. Two classes were at Lane Community College and four were held at Florence Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. In the classes they learned terminolo- gy, tools to get started, writing a draft, D EADLINE C OAST C ENTRAL SUBMISSIONS 15 TH OF EACH MONTH . FOR IS THE 2 6 • C OAST editing, revising, final editing and com- pleting the final product. Most importantly, they also learned to support one another as writers, providing and receiving constructive feedback. It was the constructive feedback that motivated them to form their own group and encourage each other to write. As involved members of the Florence community the CC Writers benefit from the commitment to meet and share writ- ing twice a month. The encouragement and support of the group inspires them to keep creating. In the July presentation, the CC Writers will share their history, time schedule, critiquing, retreats, the value of the group and prompts to generate inspiration. They will also briefly share pieces they have published. C ENTRAL • A r ts & E nt e rt ai n m en t • J U L Y 2 0 1 5 Wynette reincarnated when she does “Stand By Your Man”; Jacobson, who wrote and directed last season’s “If I Didn’t Care” as well as this year’s offering; and new- comer Doug Bushwar, whose guitar artistry and vocal talents are deservedly respected. The show also features the formidable keyboard artistry and vocal excellence of Marty Adams, Florence’s favorite musician. “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?” runs for two week- ends, kicking off what prom- ises to be one of the Florence Playhouses most exciting seasons.
