D E N OYER FEATURED ARTIST FOR J ULY AT FLORENCE — Noted ceramic artist Kris DeNoyer is to be honored at a recep- tion on July 11, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Backstreet Gallery, 1421 Bay St., and will be featured all month at the gallery. In 2000, DeNoyer made her first num- bered piece. Each of her 2,300 ceramic creations by are one-of-a-kind and num- bered. They range from the sophisticated raku, wheel-thrown, sculptures to the joyful whimsical hand built ‘critters’ and from the tiny to the substantial. In her menagerie of creatures you will find a vibrant collection of animated starfish, pelicans, fish, elephants, flying pigs, frogs and bunnies. “They make me laugh,” DeNoyer said of her creations. All of these individual critters have a special name in addition to their number. Always interested in art, she once thought sketching to be her forte. Weaver is a Florence native and was one of the founding members of the popu- lar local band “The Intruders” back in the ’60s. He then joined the legendary NW band “The Fabulous Wailers,” continuing his musical career across North America, returning to his home town just a few years ago. He and his skillful guitar playing can be heard on Saturday nights at HomeGrown Public House Restaurant. 2 1
