Expressions West 2015 exhibit at Coos Museum COOS BAY — Now through June 27, the Coos Art Museum will be exhibiting the Expressions West 2015 juried painting competition. Artists from 13 western states were invited to compete in this annual event. Juror Brian Hoover selected sixty- one paintings by forty-four artists residing in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Juror Brian Hoover is a professor of painting and printmaking at Southern Utah University. He received his art training at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Kutztown University and the State University of New York. Hoover has had one-person exhi- bitions at the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah and at Penn State University in Harrisburg, Pa. He was the winner of the 2009 Expressions West exhibition at Coos Art Museum with his painting Girl with Fantastic Hat IX Saturnalia. Ralston-Burger, William Selden, Bonni Silver, Pat Snyder, Sarita Southgate and Christine Zachary. California artists: Yi Shin Chiang, Rebecca Fogg, Dana Mano-Flank and James Vogel Washington artists – Mimi Cernyar Fox, Martha Mason and Naoko Morisawa. Idaho artists: Scott Berger, Pam Demo and Tricia Florence, Colorado artists: David Burtner, Ronnie Cramer and Claire van der Plas. New Mexico artists: Nigel Conway and Christopher Owen Nelson. Montana artist: Nan Parsons. Hawaii artist: Monica Guillory. Coos Art Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 1 to 4 pm on Saturday. Museum admission: $5 general; $2 students veterans and seniors; free to museum members. Doors open to new Bay Casino in Coos Bay COOS BAY — Three Rivers Casino Resort celebrated the grand opening of its new casino May 7. The new casino, located at 1297 Ocean Blvd. NW in Coos Bay, kicked off the event with tribal members of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw tribes, along with local business leaders, Three Rivers Players Club Members and numerous other guests. Afterward, the Bay Casino offi- cially opened its doors to the public. The casino features more than 250 new games and a full service onsite restaurant, Café 1297. Bob Garcia oversees all opera- tions of the facility and provides all 2 0 • C OAST coordination between it and the existing Three Rivers Casino Resort in Florence. Garcia also heads up all commu- nity relations and outreach in the Coos Bay area. Three Rivers projects the new Coos Bay casino will eventually provide more than 90 job positions relating to the operation of the facil- ity. These positions vary from bar- tender to cage cashier, security to slot tech and several other casino- related roles. The addition of this facility falls in the footsteps of the Three Rivers’ evolution of its Florence facility into a full resort property. Pacific Auditorium to host Umpqua Singers June 13 REEDSPORT — Umpqua Community College has announced its Umpqua Singers will again be visiting Coastal Douglas. The performance will be Saturday, June 13, at 6:30 p.m., at the Pacific Auditorium, 2260 Longwood Drive in Reedsport. The Umpqua Singers are one of the premiere vocal jazz ensembles in the Pacific Northwest. This 10-mem- ber group performs a broad range of musical styles ranging from traditional swing to contemporary R and B. With 18 CDs to their credit, the group performs 45- 50 engagements per year. The production is sponsored by Coastal Douglas Arts and Business Alliance (CDABA) and Rising Tide Live! Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.
