SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, MAY 9, 2015 Haven’t received your ballot yet? Lane County ballots were mailed on Friday, May 1. Most registered voters should have received their ballots by now. Voters who do not receive their ballot in the mail by Tuesday, May 5, should do one or more of the following: Visit www.lanecounty.org/ elections to confirm the voter is registered to vote. If a voter has moved, even to just the apartment next door, the voter will need to update his or her registra- tion. A voter can do this online at www. lanecounty.org/elec tions if he or she has a valid DMV license, identification card or permit number. The link can also be used to update or remove a mailing address. A voter can also complete a registration card and mail or deliver it to Lane County Elections. Ballots cannot be forward- ed by law. Oregon’s vote- by-mail system allows for voters to request an absentee ballot at a temporary loc- ation if a voter is not going to be at their permanent address. Lane County Elections staff is here to help. Voters can contact elections staff at 541-682-4234. Lane County Elections is located at 275 W. 10th Ave., on the corner of 10th and Lincoln streets in downtown Eugene. The office is open from 9 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. On Election Day, May 19, the office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Recycle unwanted Paint the town blue for electronics May 23 National Police Week Recycle almost anything that plugs in or runs on batteries at the Real Food Co-op between Saturday, May 23, and Saturday, May 30, at noon. NextStep Recycling in Eugene will place a large box outside of Real Food Co-op for donations of unwanted electronics. NextStep Recycling refur- bishes and recycles unwanted electronics, from com- puters to toasters and alarm clocks. Its mission is to provide technology and training to children and adults who have barriers to employment and education, while protect- ing the environment and community from hazardous waste. Visit their website for a complete list of items that can be donated. Residents are asked to dis- play blue ribbons, bows and lights during that week. They can also thank a police officer in person or send a card to the station. National Police Week began in 1962, when President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Since then, it has evolved into an entire week to honor those in law enforcement who have given their life in the line of duty. Today, the event draws upwards of 40,000 attendees at the U.S. Capitol in Washing-ton D.C. COURTS Florence Municipal Court May 5 James Mark Ramsey pleaded no contest to harass- ment. He was sentenced to seven days in Florence City Jail and must report to Siuslaw Batterer’s Interven- tion Program.
