2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 2015 OBITUARIES anniversary. Born in Spencer, Iowa, to Walter and Rachel Simington, Les grew up in Cable, Wis., during The Great Depression. While still a teenager, he worked his way West with the Civilian Conservation Corps. He met June in Oregon in 1941, and they married that year and made Swisshome their home. The following year Les was inducted into the U. S. Army and served in the South Pacific for the next three years. He received several medals upon his discharge. Along with his two brothers, Louis and Pete Simington, Les owned and operated the Simington Logging Company in Swisshome until 1968. He and June loved the out- doors and spent a great deal of time camping and fishing with friends and family. For several consecutive years they trekked up the Alaskan Highway mak- ing many friends along the way. Les was friendly with every- one he met and not once did he ever meet a stranger. He had a generous nature and was always the first to offer a help- ing hand and the last to speak a bad word about anyone. He will be missed by all who knew him and he will never be forgotten. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 19, at 1 p.m., at the Simington resi- dence in Swisshome. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
