SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2015 11 A F. Michael Wood, nationally recognized for his impression- istic oil paintings, is scheduled to give a series of two-day workshops at the Kenneth B Gallery in Old Town Florence on the last weekend of each month, February through April. The workshops will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost will be $195, with a 20 percent discount on lodging if accommodations are booked directly through the gallery. In this workshop, Wood will introduce his holistic approach to impres- sionistic painting, in which students learn to see and paint form and mass directly and quickly in order to enhance their own artistic instincts. This method in- stills confidence for an artist to use the tools required to complete a painting, regardless of subject. For this workshop, attendees may use either oil or water- based oil paints. PeaceHealth to host women’s Heart to Heart Peace Harbor Medical Center will host the eighth annual women’s health event “Every woman tell a woman” on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Florence Events Center. The program will feature a variety of overall health infor- mation to help women under- stand and manage health con- ditions facing them today. Although there are genetic risks for many diseases, some risks can be overcome by fol- lowing key preventive steps. Speakers include Dr. Fran Munkenbeck, cardiologist at Oregon Heart and Vascular Institute (OHVI); Nancy Graham, registered dietician and cardiovascular wellness and rehabilitation coordinator at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center and Dr. Aaron Holmes, primary care provider at PeaceHealth Medical Group in Florence. Ladies will enjoy a heart- healthy lunch while being entertained by the light-hearted “Cardiac Comedian,” Frank King. King is an award-winning, syndicated humor columnist and radio talk show personality who was a finalist on the Original Star Search with Ed McMahon. He has opened for numerous celebrities, but was recently opened up himself — by a team of cardiac surgeons at the OHVI, who performed an aortic valve replacement (his second) and a double bypass (his first). Numerous exhibits, free massage, tastings, demonstra- tions and learning activities will be available throughout the morning, providing atten- dees with opportunities to explore options, ask questions and gain knowledge about many of the serious health issues facing women today. “Our focus is to provide the best experience possible for attendees,” said Kat Rannow, senior communications spe- cialist for PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center. “Addressing issues that are important to women, while giving them the opportunity to laugh and live it up a bit are the goals of everyone involved.” Admission is $10, but space is limited.
