Never send an article for publica tion without giving the editor.tliy name, for thy name oftentimes se cures publication to worthless ar ticles. Thou shoulYlst not rap at the iloor of a printing oflice, for ho that an swereth the rap sneereth in his sleeve and loseth time. Never do thou loaf about, nor knock down the type, or the boys will love thee as they do the shado trees when thou leavest. Thou shouldst never read the copy on the printer's case or hook, or he may knock thee down. Never inquire of the editor for news, for behold it is his business to Rive it to thee at the appointed timo without asking for it. It is not right that thou shouldst ask him who is the author of an ar ticle, for it is his duty to keep such things unto himself. When thou dost enter his office take heed unto thyself that thou tlost not look at what may econeern thee not, for that is not meet in the sight of good breeding. Neither examine thou the proof sheet, for it is not ready to meet thine eye that thou may understand Prefer thine own town paper to any other, and subscribe tor it im mediate! v. The hpringheld (Jlass.) iifimhiicmt. re minds the party leaders in Congress, that more than thirty yiiars a. one Henry Clay put forth a compen dium of orthadox Whig doctrine, which embraces these points: A sound currency; moderate and rq r, uitable protection to -home manufac tures; a jealous vigilance against cxecutivo usurpation; the one-term principle to be embodied the or ganic law; integrity' and economy in all departments of administration; do well to pause thoughtfully over one or two of these planks." leav ing out the idea of protection, Mr. Clay's platform would bo sound Democratic doctrine, and would be readily indorsed by the eople. Pro tection involves special legislation and favoritism, and therefore is not Democratic. The rtoi-AT, Family. Grant's great weakness lias been his desire to employ his position to enricli his family and personal friends. It is now charged ly Kastcrn journals that a schema is on foot to give to the President's brother, Orville L. Grant, a complete monopoly of the trado with the military posts on the Upper Missouri, and that a large quantity of merchandise, has already been hauled out from liisraark, it fa alleged, by Government teams and on Government waorons. The old traders have been discharged, and the President's brother is to have no competitors. In this new enterprise the President's brother has a rich partner, who will doubtless furnish most of the capital as an offset for the "influence" furnished by the co partner, Grant. oek, of Kentucky, has introduced a bill to prohibit Senators. Repre sentatives, or Delegates to Congress from acting as counsel, agent, attor ney, prosecutor or solicitor in any suits other than criminal, arising nn d?r the revenue law against the Uni ted States, and fixes the penalty at not exceeding $5,(XX) and imprison ment not exceeding a year, at the discretion of the Court. It also per mits persons paying for such servi ces to bring suit to recover back the snm. Tho bill passed without ob jection.
