Blanche Minor fell from a fence this morning and hurt a leg so bndly that a physician had to be called in to attecd to the injury. Miss Rose Hnckaby, who has tnp.de her home in and near Hepp ner the past four yenrs, will' leave this week for her former home in Iowa. The great manufacturing city of Osaka, Japmi, has been swept by a fire in which over 11,000 build ins were destroyed and but one life Was lost. The fishing party headed by Bill Jobnson returned yesterday fish less. Bill says the only fun they bad was drinking Folger's Golden Gate Coffee. Mi6s Emma Btown, of Black horse, went to Portland, Friday, where she will visit for awhile and then proceed to the coast where it is thought a month's rest will im prove her health. Prof. W. C. Howard, who for the past four years has beeu ptesi dent of Columbia Junior College at Milton, has resigned and will go to North Yakima, Wash., to take the pnncipa'ship of one of the city schools. The Palace hotel is cow equipped with good fire escapes, having had them put in place daring the past week. The fire escapes are all made of iron and steel and the work is all home production from the Gentry blacksmith shop. Joe Klein, the well known all around mechanic, is doiug the work which guarantees a good job. Len Gilliam returned Saturday evening from a trip to the Alberta countt y. Mr. Gilliam and Henry Pickard left Heppner about two months ago, going first to Seattle. After taking in the big fair the boys weot to Spokane, and taking the Canadian Pacific railroad went 100 miles north of Edmonton where Henry Pickard and bis father have homesteads. Mr. Gilliam is not greatly impressed with the Alberta country. Where he visited, last winter the thermometer showed a temperature of 72 degrees below zero, while in the summer time the mosquitoes are so bad that lires bave to be built to protect buth men and stock from the torturesof the hungry insects. Slocum Iru Co. Children Cry A Sad Death. Ooe of the saddest deaths occurring in Heppner lor some yesrs was thst ol tbe young wife of Charles M. Hall, nte Olive Adkina, daughter of Mr. sad Mrs " J. J. Adkina. Mrs. Hall was ill in al only about aix months, during which time she with ber husband moved from Ellenaburg, Wash., on account of ber health, and came back to Morrow Coun ty to bei father's home thinking tbe change would be beneficial to her health. Bat ber complaint was too deeply set. and she sank rapidly, passing out of this life on tbs day of her birth, July 23, 1909, being 24 year of age. f Mrs. Hall was a member of the M. E. Church, South, at Walla Walla, haviog joined the church when but eleven years old. From young girlhood she was exceedingly consciontious in all things, which trait joined to her ever pleasant, joyous, agreeable disposition made her a most lovable character. This death breaks the ofrcle (or the first time in Brother Adkina' family and in therefore felt all the keei er by tbe family as also by a host of friends. Instead of the news bein? a shock to her ehe spoke of a weight be ing gone and expressed a joy of beinu ho c!o9e to the Saviour in whom she had confided her young life. While ehe ex pressed r. keen regret to leive a loving husband an.' her ow n family, yet her constant prnyer was for the release that came on the day of her birth. After only a prayer, a acripture read ing and a son by the writer, her re main were tenderly borne to the depot and shipped to Milton, Oregon, where the funeral proper and internieut took place, conducted by Rev.C. R- Howard. of Walla Walla. Her request was thus fulfilled to rest by the side of her infant child who had preceded her some months, until reawakened by the trum pet of God, summoning the family to a reunion on high. W. A. ORR.
